Just got my gp2x from play-asia.com today, Really looking forward to this!!! After a while of messing around and reading a usb help guide and realizing after a trip to wal-mart that my cable mini usb cable was shipped broke and buying a flash writer and sd card, I got media on to my gp2x. I can play mp3s but no videos what so ever. Do I need to re edit my videos for the screen resolution or what, I tried almost everything. It dosn't regonize .wmv, and dvix, avi came up as avi on the gp2x. Maybe thats normal, but the part where it just freezes after the first second of playback isn't normal I think. Did play asia ship with the latest firmware because I thought they did?

Go to utilities>info in the firmware menu. It should tell you your firmware version there. I have firmware 1.0 and divx 5 .avi files have worked perfect for me but xvid doesn't.... i use autogk to encode mine, btw.

Wait, I think the problem lies elseware, I just tried to play a couple games and they did the exact same thing when I try and play movies, it just starts to go and then locks up and goes weird(crashes), yea, I have rev 1.01. The thing that I wonder about is that is this due to my brand of SD card, the only one at walmart was Scan Disk 256

This happened to me at first, and I was VERY worried.

But this is said time and time again on these forums... GP2X is extremely picky about the batteries - so try 2000+ mAH rechargables, or some very good alkalines (though they don't seem to last long). GP2X starts to become unstable if the battery voltage isn't kept consistant, alkaline batteries generally aren't good at this, thats why digital camera Ni-Mh are recommended.

Of course u could always use a DC adapter.

You were right the batteries were not correct! After I got the correct batteries working and what not, the console is great and the video really shows how good it is, its just insane and I love it and cant wait to start programing for it. Although GamePark really has some stuff to work on, I know they are trying to save money, but the first thing when tring to connect your gp2x to your pc is through the usb cable that they give you. To me it would be worth it if they included one that works. Why give you batteries that don't even belong to the conosle. I know that you were supposed to have 2000+ mAh rechargables, but it didn't occur to me that GP would package some cheap ones that will not funtion properly. I didn't think they were rechargables, but good enough to get some media on the thing and try it out. It would of been better if they didn't package them at all with it.
