Good god this is taking longer than thought it would!

Current look....

Now, anyone have any sugestions? Is it perhaps a bit too cluttered? I'm not sure myself, with less buttons it does look a but bare, but... hmm....

looks interesting ,i havent got a gpx2 yet im keeping im distance and watching whats happening etc (not diveing in like the goons will when blue ray dvd drives are out) , im planning to get one after xmas when everying has been debuged includeing the self destruct (self bricking)

are there any tools available to make these skins? seeing this skin being made has kinda inspired me to try make a cool star trek one too and maybe a few others...

Steve

So far I'm very impressed, and pleased that someone has bothered to make a Star Trek theme.... I'm never changing my skin again ;)

I like it how it is, after all its quite a dilemma... with less buttons its easier to navigate but looks bare, and currently it'd be difficult to navigate but looks very authentic!!

Hmm, how about increasing the size of all buttons so there's less buttons, but STILL looks authentic? ;) Give it a try! They're a tad on the small side anyway.

Can't wait to try it out.

Nice work man. I don't even like Star Trek and I'm going to pimp this one. What tools are you using? Is there a general how-to out there for making skins? I've done a few for Litestep on windows, but never on linux besides SVG stuff I started playing with.

I like it. But I wonder if you can make it a bit less cluttered. Just what you said, I think its a bit too cluttered. But nice job!

Not being a Star Trek fan, I thought it looked shit. But that was only because I thought it was just randomness put together in a random way :). But now I know it's a Star Trek theme it does make sense and looks kinda cool ;).

Hmmm, you really need the buttons to stand out more, you would only lose some of the authentic look if you dimmed the buttons that wearnt real, or if you used purple for the fakes and white for the real, ect.

Perhaps.... (although they "light up" when selected) - as for making them bigger, I cant really without making them more squashed and less authenticy, unless anyone can point me to a guide to completely change the button placement (I can only change there position so much via the image files)

Ive not done any of the other pages yet, but they'll stay the same kind of theme anyway (I'm not going to have big shatner pics or anything ¬_¬)

And for the people asking how to make them - its dead easy really. Look on the filesection of this site for the skin editor, which is just a collection of images (PNG) that you can edit to your hearts content. This one was a bit harder because the background and buttons have to match up exactly, which took a lil bit of time but in the end of the day, anyone with an image editing program can do it (I use Paintshop Pro).

And cheers for the positive feedback chappies - I imagine I'll have it finished sometime this week unless Xmas stuff gets in the way (bah humbug!)

This is really cool :) Will deffo use it when you finish :)

Far too many of these LCARS clones lose authenticity, or look plain rubbish. This one though, this one wouldn't look out of place in the actual show :D

OMG YUO ARE TEH UEBER GEEK!

I like it.

Geeky geeker-de-geek.

I've toyed with the idea of writing a shell replacement (Explorer replacement) in LCARS style... but it would be *wayyy* much work and first I'd have to think of a way to make the LCARS actually useful for day-to-day tasks, and still be practical to run with other applications covering it.

Geeeeeeeek. Geeeeeeek.

Don't know if you have done yet, but re: sound. The beeps are so annoying, if I worked for Starfleet I would probably end up smashing up my station especially after a heavy night on the Romulan Ale. Suggest you keep them to a minimum.....

good, but SOOOOO messy! :p
i'd say there are too many useless buttons on it, maybe you can remove a few of themand get a very lisible highlight function , but i'm not a true hardcore startreek geek, but aren't you copying the interface of main big computers?

don't they have "lighter" interfaces for communicators and mobile devices? (i feel like, but i'm not sure at all :p )

I thought about doing the tricorder one, but its not as recognisable, heh... Anyway, Lcars by its nature is an ugly fecking thing! I was just bored and it gave me something to do :p

This is.... the sweetest thing. Mr. Doctor/Bruce Campbell, you've done it!

Can it handle vocal commands?

"Computer."

*Star Trek Bleep*

"Earl Grey tea. Hot."

*Different Star Trek bleep*

Is this completed? Are you still working on it?

I was missing something on my GP2X, and I think this is it.
