The Ur-quan Masters

i suspect when you unzip it and run out of space its becasue of FAT32 sucking balls with respect to small files. Not very efficent. Each one takes up more space then required so everything is alligned "nicely" (read ass simply) And the zip contains a tons of small files. Much much much (ad infinitum) more efficent leaving it in the zip

hmm
the starcon 1 roms i ve found so far run slow under sega emu and dont draw in game overlays (ship health + full or ship select menus), still, it does work so it can probably be improved
coool

Thanks Loki - the mnt/sd part was what was screwing me up, since I had no idea this was considered the 'root' SD card directory in gp2x lingo. Everything seems great now, except one problem - I can't seem to use the volume control buttons to adjust the sound. Fantastic port, though!

I have a bit of a prob... On the main menu, the colours are fine, but ingame the colours are reversed. Could this have something to do with the fact that I'm using the 0.3 content? I'm stuck with dial-up, BTW, so no insulting my intelligence!

Dunno... Narcissu's 130Mb with all the sound.
and well worth it :p

Narcissu is the first "game" I completed on my gp2x! (unless you count a beginner round of m.u.l.e. in which I lost.... however, i am getting better! last round i played in expert mode I more than doubled the computer player in second place)

It is very good and I would highly recommend it if you like a good thought-provoking story with some good music and a slideshow to accompany it.

About UQM:
I've never played this game before so i'm a little confused as to what i'm doing.... i ran into some alien and he sounded nice and then suddenly he said something about destroying me and then I was flung into a space shooting sequence in which the joystick moved my ship REALLY slowly so i had a lot of trouble controlling myself and eventually died....

EDIT: OK, i just tried to go to a planet (i bumped into it and hit some face buttons...) and it sent me back to the gp2x firmware many....

I just tried out UQM, and great job on the port! Seeing this game in the WIP was the thing that made me want to get a GP2x!

I know this is the first version of the port, so there are still some things to work out, but I have some ideas to make the game a tad more usable. On the resource collecting shuttle missions it is a tad hard to both move forward and turn at the same time, because the GP2x is funny like that. If it was possible to turn with the L and R buttons, that would make my life a lot easier while I am scooting around evading lava explosions.

Also, is there going to be voice support? UQM has the best voice acting out of any game I have ever played, even Half Life 2

One last thing, would it be possible to improve the controls by allowing diagonals to count as the direction they are closest to? It feels funny playing this game because I have to hit everything dead on, which is kinda hard.

Yet again, thanks for releasing this! :D

for me, wehn i'm talking to people their picture shows up untill they speak. then its solid blue with the text on top. then when they are done back to their pic. I'm assuming some overlay drawing isnt working right.

Also, after playing starcon1 in sega, I second making the diagonal keys count as forward and turn. It's so much more usable. Becuse that is something you can do in the PC version, but not currently in this port.

Other than that, it's awsome. Good luck.

I have mine working fine with voices... create a 'packages' folder in the game's content folder, and copy uqm-0.4.0-content.uqm and uqm-0.4.0-voice.uqm in there.

Then, open the content uqm in any ZIP program, and extract the 36 byte 'version' file into your content dir.

Confirmed.

That would be a great improvement.

Definitely!

going to work on key mapping

In that case, it would be great if you could get dev access to the project and add GP2X to it. It'll just be a matter of editing the make files. config.sh.

I'd really appriciate being able to compile it from a script... then I'd be able to help out with some coding. (What I'm good at)

the 'version' file is in the latest release zip (uqm-0.2-r1.zip)

put the new version in but I dont seem to be able to save.
Is this a bug or are there some saving restraints in the game ?
