Franxis has done a lot of work to overcome a lot of the problems that were found in 1.5.
Can everyone please now report any problems that they find in version 1.6 (you lot are effectively our beta testers).

If you find a game is giving you problems, try the following options first and see if the problem is still there BEFORE reporting the bug...

Video = Normal
Video Core = Old Gfx Core

Those settings are the most likely to work correctly, but at the same time they're not the fastest settings.

Thanks! This makes the controls for Berserk work again.

BY the way, AWESOME job so far, guys!

Oh yeah, if anyone wants to say "Great, the bug in xxxxxxx is fixed now", that'd be appreciated too.

:) hi Fransix and thegrimreaper,

first, I think you two are doing a wonderful job. since Frasix started this emulator, I have a portable Mame! GREAT!

About bugs, I don't know if this is one, but when I start crazy kong, GP32 reboots when the monkey arrives at the top of the screen. first I thought it was a battery issue, but other games work fine.

Another 'bug' which seems to have been always there, is the scaling of some games. for instance Centipede: I like to play it while GP is horizontal, but then I don't see the high scores and the playfield is too far streched out horizontally. When I rotate the screen, everything looks good, but I can't get a good grip on my GP then.

But of course, these are small issues, please go on with getting this emulator outstanding.

Ahh, the scaling of games. That would be nice, I've wanted that myself aswell.

I even got some MCR games working (such as Tron etc.) but found that they were way too big, all you could see was the middle of the game, about half the game was missing. That just made them unplayable :(

Bosconian works great, thanks guys!
Being able to save the old graphics engine as default has really improved things. Sound in games I've so far tried has been more clear too, as has been speed.
I think this release has really brought things along to a nice stable playable format for MameGP32. Well done to the both of you!
I'm actually looking forward ot tomorrow so I can try out various games. I'll finally get around to making that list for myself of non-.37 roms on my smc. Then I've only got to try to find 'em all!

I found something interesting. When I put in 1.6 and tried to run any game I had a config file for, it would not run. I had to go and delete all the config files before they would run.

I hope I won't have to do that every time as re-setting all the config options is rather time consuming.

Regarding Crazy Kong - in version 1.5 there was a screeching sound when Kong would begin jumping on the platforms. Now, on version 1.6, my GP just resets in the same moment.
I turned the sound option off and the game ran correctly - so apparently the problem is related to the sound core.

Great job guys! Bomb Jack is running great @ 166 and FS0. Sound is still cracking, but much improved from 1.5!

And a big YES for highscore save. Fantastic!

I know you guys have not asked for a wish list, BUT I am taking the liberty to write it anyway:

1- Smoother sound
2- Samples (Zaxxon, New Rally X)
3- File delete from the main menu

Asides from that, playing Bomb Jack and Son Son on the GP is simply fantastic!!!! Thanks guys!!!

I don't know if this has been reported yet but on the screen with your game list on, if you accidently go left or right with the joystick the game number in the top right-hand corner of the screen goes into negative numbers and crashes if you press A.
Only really a problem if your not looking at what your doing.

Yeah, I was hoping for sound in some of the games that don't have it. Zaxxon, Phoenix, Berzerk, frenzy, Vanguard, Space invaders, Pepper II, Venture, Complete sound in Galaxian, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr would sure have been nice. I think they said it would be hard as it would slow it down but maybe if all of the silent games were put in a separate FXE it wouldn't effect the others and have sound. To me games are not playable with no sound.

This shouldn't happen, the left and right joystick moves should match the L and R button clicks.

Can you tell me exactly how you got the problem, as I'm unable to recreate this on my machine. Exact details such as how many games you've got installed, the number of the game selected when you clicked left etc.

I don't seem to have any problems with the sound on DK or DKJ?

Any ideas why there is no sound for Pacland or Gorf?

Half of the sounds are missing in DK,DKjr, and the ones that are there are crackly. Go play it on your PC and then you will see that there is alot missing sound wise.

Reported this since version 1.1 :)
It doesn't crash if you turn the sound off. And with version 1.5, it doesn't crash but makes a squeeking noise after that.

So it's a bug in the sound emulation :)

gradius graphics go back to front with new core, works ok with old core though
Yup, there are quite a few that work like that, so you have to Save the old core as your preferred option. But don't use the old core for all games or you'll miss out on the speed improvements of the new core.

I've only got 6 games installed:-

1942 (set 1)
Bionic Commando (set 1)
Gradius
Green Beret
Rygar (US set 1) :D
Tetris (set 1)

It also does it with the L and R shoulder buttons as you say, they match. Using the shoulder buttons or the joystick L/R if I scroll from 1942 through to Tetris when I push the joystick right the numbers in the top right hand corner changes from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4 etc. But when i return the joystick to the middle position inbetween game selections, a higher figure than the total number of games I have installed flashes up on the screen. After scrolling past Tetris it just goes up and up with no game selected on the screen. Eg (1 to 2 (let go of the joystick and 7 flashes up), 2 to 3 (let go of the joystick and 8 flashes up).
I hope this helps even if it identifies that I have a problem. :(

Thanks for that rygar, that's the sort of information we developers need.

It's probably 'cos you've "only" got 6 games, I never tested it with just a few ROMs. I'll investigate if/when I get time.

Does 'Save the old core as your preferred option' just mean use version 1.5 instead of 1.6?
