After all the hype about the NeoCD emu I finally got some games and decided to give it a try... I was expecting perfection, to hear you guys rave about it, usually someone or other here is quick to point out what flaws if any an emu has.

So I load it up and start trying games... what's this? Half the games either play with no music, other half play with no sound effects, and only a couple play with both.

I hardly consider music- or soundeffect-less games to be perfect :( yeah I'm being a bit picky... it does run great, GOD I had the PSP's filtering when screen stretched though.

I'm left wondering how they can do full speed Neo support so quickly but are suddenly slowing way down on getting SNES and Genesis full speed.

yeah i know what you mean.
we were just raving about it given its speed when compared to the other emulators.
i know, windjammers is nearly *perfect* if only the bgm plays, same issue with other games.
anyway, the more i play emulators on the psp, the more it doesn't seem suited for it. with the 4 way dpad and wide awkward resolution screen y'know :( i still love this emulator, though, and i hope this and all others continue to progress.

iVE TRIED AT LEAST 10 GAMES ALL WITH FULL SPEED (NEARLY) AND SOUND/MUSIC. i UNDERSTAND THERE ARE TWO NEOGEO EMUS OUT THERE, iVE ONLY TRIED ONE WHICH I HAD TO LOCATE THE BIOS FOR BUT IT WORKS PERFECT, THE OTHER LOOKED IT BIT IFFY, DIDNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT A BIOS WHICH STUCK ME AS STRANGE (NEVER TRIED IT, IS THAT THE ONE YOUR USING). METAL SLUG 2 WORKS LIKE A DREAM (WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT). ALSO TRY AND LOCATE THE MOST RECENT RELEASE I DO UNDERSTAND THERE WERE ISSUES WITH SOUND IN PREVIOUS RELEASES WHICH HAVE BEEN CLEARED UP NOW. LITTLE MORE DIGGING AND YOU WILL HAVE WHAT YOU WANT !!!

Can anyone confirm? have sound issues been fixed in this newest version? I wont be able to test this for a day or two.

The games I tried were Magician Lord (which seemed to work perfectly), metal slug 1 (which had music but NO sfx), and Blue's Journey (which had sound effects but no music). Those were the only games I was able to try as they were the only games my friend with a CDZ has :D

Make sure you have the latest emu version: (0.5u4)

SFX and in-game music works on all games I've tried. Even CD audio music works when converted to mp3.

For this to work, the romsets need to be in the gamefolder with a subfolder called "nocd.mp3" containing the mp3.

The mp3s need to be named the same as the game folder name with " - track ##" at the end.

eg:

King Of Fighters 99\ **romset files go here**

King Of Fighters 99\neocd.mp3\King Of Fighters 99 - Track 02.mp3
King Of Fighters 99\neocd.mp3\King Of Fighters 99 - Track 03.mp3
King Of Fighters 99\neocd.mp3\King Of Fighters 99 - Track 04.mp3
etc etc

if you find a nice romset somewhere, the folders & mp3s should be created like this for you.

You NEED to get this working properly, the emu plays all the classic NG games pretty much perfectly and IMO yes, it does live up to it's hype!!!

Nope, still not working right.

Okay, I got the latest version, 0.5u4.

I take my iso from the iso/mp3 set, and extract the files from the iso, and put them in a folder named "Blue's Journey". Then I put the mp3's in a subfolder in that folder titled neocd.mp3

SO my file structure is>

psp/game/neocd/ <------ emu and bios are here

psp/game/neocd/blue's journey <------- extracted iso files in here

psp/game/neocd/blue's journey/neocd.mp3 <--------- mp3's in here, named "blue's journey - track 01.mp3" etc.

game plays just fine, but has NO music.

I did the exact same thing with Metal Slug 1, and I get music, but NO sound effects.

well the metal slug i have has no music but sfx is there,

could be the roms you have

Thank you for the wisdom :D went looking for other versions of the games I was having problems with, and sure enough, different versions did work perfectly. Metal Slug now has full sound effects and music.

So for anyone having sound problems, it's most likely the iso file is screwed, find another one.
