That reddit poster already blames it on the EU. I'm not sure what directive he's referring to specifically; the last time the EU did something that made half of the web change was the GDPR, but I can't see how that would make this happen specifically.

I read it as they merely pointed out that some (like the YT notif. itself) were blaming it on the EU but that this could be taken with a Himalayan mountain-sized crystal of salt since Google had been shown to be deliberately spreading misinformation to make it look like the EU was to blame for other issues?
