Alright, so I tried running GPDoom on 166mhz to see if my new BLU would go that high (which Lik-Sang says would :p ), and it froze. So I restarted, but now it seems everything on my SMC is messed up. I cant load any programs/games, it starts loading, then reboots. The only thing I can get into is the MP3 Player and all the songs are renamed to Untitled, and only one plays..

Is this a common problem with overclocking higher than the GP32 can go? Is there any easier way to find out how high my GP32 can overclock?

Thanks

Edit: I added two new programs and they work fine, but all the rest doesn't work  I guess this means I've got to format the card and start over...

UP TO 166Mhz out of the box. Lik-sang does not garantee it, like gbax does. Your Gp32 basicly cant go that high on Doom

Weird gpDoom must have been writing to the SMC when it reset or something I'd guess that a quick reformat would fix it.

Lik-Sang kinda screwed people up by putting that upto 166Mhz on there pages... it means that it potentially can go upto 166Mhz but it's pretty much the same percentage that go to 166Mhz as the original GP32's.

Sorry to hear about your luck but there are many programs that are still decently playable at lower clockspeeds on certain emu's and as emu's get more optimised you'll be able to play more of the games closer to full speed.

At www.mirkoroller.de there is a clockspeed tester, you can find out your max Mhz using that. Hopefully you'll be able to handle something like 156 or 160 which will be a little closer to 166Mhz.

Hope you're enjoying your new toy!

Thanks for the link for the clockspeed tester :)

And I knew about the Lik-Sang falsly advertising the 166mhz, thats why I said I wanted to test it, and put a :p after them saying it would. I'll do the clock tester and like you said, hopefully it'll do 156 or 160 :)

I just thought it was sorta wierd how it sorta corrupted my whole SMC. And since I dont have a SMC writer, using the PC Link thingy for 128mb's takes awhile, and kills batteries :p

Edit: Before I do the clock speed test imma wait til I get my other SMC (hopefully any day now) that way if it does the same thing I wont have to format and move another 128mb's :p

Up to 166 is not false advertising. It means what it says, UP TO 166. This means anything from 133-166. I am surprised that so many are confused by this. Haven't you ever heard of a store sale saying all items are UP TO 50% off? This doesn't mean *everything* is 50% off as some are 20% some 30% etc.

Anyway yes if the GP32 crashes when writing to the card it can become corrupt and require a re-format. This is why I don't like programs that write to the card on their own without prompting first. This can also happen if a program writes to the card when batteries are low. It takes more "juice" to write than it does to read and can cause problems in low power conditions.

Also, get a reader they are cheap. Readers are easier to use, faster, and doesn't eat batteries.

Hey, check the add at the top of your page. Do you see "Up to 166MHz"? No? Neither do I. It says 166MHz, which is false advertising. But im not complaining about that, I knew beforehand that Lik-Sang was wrong in saying that, and that I may not get one that goes up to 166MHz.

:)

I would complain as it CLEARLY says on the Advert at the top of this pad "166MHZ"
False advertising is Illegal :p

You won't get anywhere! The ad at the top of this page is an invite to tender, i.e. something to get you into their store. Once in, it does say "up to 166MHz". If you clicked on the link above and were taken straight to a purchase page, then you would have a case.

The thing is, in a system that is overclocked by the software, no system is 166, or 156 or whatever, so it doesn't sound like they mean "your system will be between 133 and 166". It sounds like they mean "your system will reach up to 166, if neccessary".

Basically, what they are saying isn't false advertising, but it is ambiguous at the very least.

It probably froze during an SMC operation - there is always a chance that this will kill your SMC contents. Try using the recover option on the original f/w...

It is a bit misleading yes. That is true for most advertising these days though. I hear adds for quack herbal remedies all of the time and they always have all of the fake testamonials followed by the catch all phrase "your results may vary" The bottom line is that you need to read everything carefully and not make any assumptions, there is alot of "clever" use of words out there.
