Mojang getting bought by Microsoft (title edited)

Sorry to ask but did Notch got ...uhm... "issues" recently?
Notch made two billion dollars overnight and instantly isolated himself from anyone that would've kept him properly informed. He's "rich" now and lives in a completely different world. Case in point, suggesting that the fire is "natural" and therefore implying that it is "healthy" for the environment when in actual fact it was set intentionally by land developers and even if it were accidental by a natural cause like lightning or whatever it is still incredibly detrimental and we should still be trying to stop (or at least contain) it, just as we do wildfires everywhere else in the world.

It can be argued that what we do with wildfires elsewhere is excessive (or at least it used to be before we pretty much built on every bit of land that could burn). These days especially though, we don't exactly need a big dump of CO2 into the atmosphere, and especially not if in this instance the fires were set deliberately by developers to make the land easier to clear, and perhaps to kill any native people living there.

Fire in amazon is just a big world wide marketing for political reasons, most people will fall for it unfortunantly.
Notch didn´t make billions overnight, he worked on minecraft for many years before selling it, you should consider his efforts.

edit: it is amusing and sad at the same time on how so many humans worldwide can be easily cheated.

No, I mean he made billions overnight. Like literally, one day he was making an excellent living selling his wildly popular game, enough that he'd be able to live lavishly and occasionally fund some crazy adventures for the rest of his life, and then the next he had literally more money than any person could ever spend in multiple lifetimes. Yeah, he worked on Minecraft for years and his efforts are worth appreciating, but that doesn't change that he became a billionaire in an instant. That much money in that little time changes a person.

cheated how? Please explain more. Marketing by whom and for what reasons in your opinion?

Amazon fire this season is, so far, normal, according to those who live relatively close by the forest. I say close by because the forest is huge and extremely inhospitable (think Antartica), no one but no-human-contact native indian tribes can live within it.
The wave of social media going about so far uses misplaced photos of many years ago, it was just this weekend we got some updated images on the subject and that is not even from the Amazon state but Pará state, so the majority of these posts don´t even make sense.

Internally, Brazil is going through a political power shift where the last parties governed for somewhat 2 decades, so there is an ongoing battle to clean the state machine which is filled with people from opposition.
The opposition parties also have the majority of congress man, so it makes for an ugly fight.

Last week the government started investigating ONGs that act around the region on the "eco" name and found the side road fires have actually been criminal ones, yeah those lines you see on satellite shots.
These same ONGs lost their easy millions income just about 1 or 2 weeks prior to all this fuzz, so it makes sense they would retaliate in favor of the opposition party.

Internationally, there is the mercosul/europe commercial pact going on, so it is expected that the agricultural class of some of these countries will complain and fight against it, specially those aligned with the brazillian opposition.
There is the proximity of the current brazillian gov with the USA which also plays a bit of a role.

I said "cheated" because, in my opinion, this was just marketing and the majority of the people pushing these news around have no clue about it or the scope of the forest.
There are more elements to describe but the conversation would go forever. The thing is, this "news" won´t last another couple of weeks before another subject pops up (last one was the whales).

It is also bad for brazil as all states around amazon will smartly request emergency funds from the main state to "help" the fire, which is a very common way to steal public money around here.
If you consider we live in an 100% corrupt, violent and narco continental country that does not even have basic sanitation amongst its many constant crisis, this is a huge waste of resources.

edit: One of the funniest major news was that the smoke covered sao paulo city a few days ago. Those areas are about 3 thousand kms apart and that phenomena is super common in sao paulo and has not relationship whatsoever...still, people believe it.

edit: you know what... fuck it. believe what you want, you live there. I guess my brazillian coworkers and the satellites are lying.

FWIW, I recently heard this radio programme: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3csym24

It does mention that NASA reported that current fire levels are within the normal range, but also points out the fire season started rather earlier than usual this year. It does end up on the side that most western programming is on these days, but at least it presents the stats and lets you make up your own mind.

With the current climate development, we can't afford forest fires like that every year and the problem is, that if you compare it to the last years, it's perfectly normal, but that already wasn't healthy at all due to how casual the whole deforestation (mostly for live stock) has become over the last decades. The status quo is just broken for a long time already but people use it as a reference.

I agree @Klumpen , most of the trouble here is related to farms and mining on the surrounding amazon forest region and states, not inside. Fact that this country is miserable does not help.
One can fit the whole western europe inside the legal amazon forest, it is impossible to set it on fire criminally or naturally, you don´t walk on this jungle.

@erico yeah i get what you were saying now. i think bolsonaro is an asshole and trying to deflect from his obvious failings by saying that NGOs set those fires is ludicrous, but at the same time, bolivia for example is doing just as bad. and there are other countries than brazil, where the same problem of farmers illegally burning the rainforest to clear land has existed for decades. still I don't think that it is a marketing campaign of any sorts, just misinformed people and bolsonaro has a track record of dismantling civil rights and eco organizations and policies in favor of industrial interest groups. but I am sure he is not the only idiot doing that. just think of maduro in venezuela or chavez before him. or donald duck in the US pretending to save coal miners and suggesting to drop nukes on tropical storms...

but we need to worry about this, it's not going to stop by calling it a political game. there are huge forest fires all over the world and it's only going to get worse. if we don't stop global warming we will all be fucked and our kids will be born into a madmax scenario
