It doesn't, as getting the remaining parts for MP takes longer than the cases :)

If, in the process of getting the case plastics ironed out, you happen to have any mechanically working/right/correct cases with heavy discoloration and shrink marks or even made of 'random scrap pellets' to test the molds, can I have one for my prototype?

Since the custom color thing for the prototypes seems to have fallen off the table, I'd be happy to get one that is 'unique'.
 
Regarding keycaps, it would possible to 3d print this keycap in black but leaving the letter/symbol "engraved" or without any infill at all? This way you would have custom keys and backlight.

I got my own printer and would like to try but it would help to get the dimensions for this cap.

Or, if you want to get evil with a drill press... Take a normal keymat, drill out the symbols from the middle of the keys you want to change (just the first 0.1mm or so depth), print what you want onto a sheet of paper, cut all those little letters out, put them inside the key caps and install. The white paper would glow around the black letter - or if you prefer, print inverted or color letters on blacked out paper. The backlight is pretty strong - it should shine through a piece of copy paper without much issue.
 
Drilling through a rubber keymat is likely to be a little tricky. I propose building a jig to hold the key peg in more closely than the default keyboard surround that copes additionally for the clear cap does. I don't know how deep the lettering goes, so 0.1mm might do it or you might need to go deeper before you hit white rubber.

Also a correction for your last sentence; the backlight can be pretty strong if you configure it to be that strong, but need not be that strong for normal use.

To my understanding, the white layer is only on the flat of the mat - not on the key tops. The sides are clear. The color and black amount to a layer of rubberized 'paint' on the tops of the keys. Could probably do it by rubbing it gently with a fine grit sandpaper. The key caps protect the lettering.
 
Yeah, you could be right. I kind of assumed they were only using two colours and a little orange paint on the top, which I guess would only work if the white was a dye rather than a pigment, and I don't know which it uses. If the black is a dye then you'd need quite a lot of it to block the backlight, but I suspect it's painted with a pigment.
 
The Pyra is maybe the first handheld where the Preeorderers discuss how to mod the Device long bevore the Device is Released,
Its cool to know that whe can make our own Keyboard Layout but wouldnt this negate the point of a Homebrewhandheld ???
Maybe its the same as whit the changeble CPU Board:

The Reason why Software on the Pandora runs that good was, that it was optimiced for this Device whit exatly this CPU, and mapped to the Pandora Keyboard Layout,
If every Pyra have a Diverent CPU Board because some ditnt need the new SOC whe could end up like the PCs: lots of diverent PC Hardware, so software cant optimiced that deep as on the Pandora..

You cant Map something to the "AnyKey" if someone change this Hardwarekey to the "exactlythiskey"
 
Quick update:
As planned, I've replaced all the capacitors on the CPU boards and removed the one that shouldn't have been populated on the Mainboards.
So the prototypes are now ready to be shipped to devs tomorrow :)

Then I'll wait for the new cases and will then assemble and ship the ones for the Prototype Preorders :D
 
i would love to design my own handheld or laptop, but this whole process has given me insight into how difficult it is. ED has invested lots of time/money into making the Pyra.
 
Yea, laptop making is not that hard, get an rpi, a screen, a crappy keayboard and a battery. You could do it around 100 bucks in a few hours.
Of course it will suck tho.
You will spend more time fixing your broken gluepoints and getting software to work than actually using it.

Cool idea. And I could have a real mechanical keyboard, and a battery as big as I want!
But getting it through airport security might be a hassle...

Almost one month without news, less preorders and no new preorders, new hardware way more powerful than Pyra beign launched.... I know all the shenanigans about this project (amateur, lack of time, bla, bla, bla...) but you stated one month ago that "the prototypes are now ready to be shipped to devs tomorrow" and we don't know even the devs has already received the prototypes and if they are working on the software side of the Pyra.
