No pics from me from Amstedam, but we were about 60-70 people.. small, but that's the usual from Netherlands. Some people crossed the whole country, most were from nearby.
Oh, and the organizer(s?) was preventively arrested when he came out of the train in Amsterdam Central Station, so there was no microphone, and less flags and things.

fahrenheit 451 in Germany: Germany is tossing out books that go against the official state ideas:
Yeah no... that is not how this was going down. Germany isn't tossing anything out. Some libraries (actually just one in Bremen that has done it) have decided to kick out right wing conspiracy books (meaning bat shit crazy conspiracy nazis, not conservatives or classical right wing politics) by two well known conspiracy publishers (the "Kopp Verlag" doesn't have anything other than crazy conspiracy crap... from reptiloids to cure your cancer with the power of sunlight to the protocols of zion and other antisemitic crap. and antaios is the main publisher of the "identitäre bewegung" which is also so far right that they don't even hide their racism and antisemitism like the AFD still tries to).
I don't think that is the right thing to do aswell, but it's not like the German government is purging the libraries. It's the decision of a few singular libraries who apparently haven't heard of open debate but would rather throw out the bullshit instead of making it publicly available for everyone to judge themselves. Stupid idea, but not at all Fahrenheit 451 like. So yeah, thanks the fake news. Gerhard Wisnewski is a known hate monger and tin foil head idiot (chemtrails, 911 was an inside job, the NSU murders weren't done by racists but staged, vaccinations and medicine is a lie... yadda yadda yadda). The last person we should actually quote or rely on for actual information. I am a bit surprised that you would post that video, the "Kopp Verlag" is the equivalent to what a lovechild of Breitbart news and ancient aliens would be.

Do your freaking research before unwittingly spreading lies and nazi propaganda please.

Do your freaking research
Thank you for your angle. It explains a lot. And how did the books get there in the first place; book donations or bought with state money?
And... are they also tossing out extreme-left things too? Or the Twilight saga books (also crazy crap, no? ;) )

Can't really reply in-depth, as I do not know Wisnewski or Breitbart news, but I understand that it's tabloid sensationalism. But I infer that nazi groups are rising again... I'll buy a third lock for my bicycle*.

* Dutch joke: During German occupation of the Netherlands, all iron (Dutch bikes contain iron) was robbed for the war effort. The bikes never came back. And so "give me back my bike" is a cheap jab at a laugh.
As for the third lock: some bike users have 3 locks: 2 chains and a quicklock. The quicklock secures your backwheel. One chain prevents your frontwheel from being stolen, and the other chain is used to bind your bike to a pole, else it gets tossed into a van.
Amsterdam statistics for 2015: 26 bikes stolen each day.

I just read the wiki of Kopp Verlag. Meh. The Identitarian movement however, ... yeah... weird. France fused this far-right and far-left groups together? I don't understand, those should not be able to mix.

All in all a Public Library should have a historical representation of what is out there to read (a private library can be much more selective). Let's just hope that this not feed the streisand effect.

I think that's only really true of central public libraries, but local libraries are much more concerned with the sort of thing that people actually want to read. I've not heard of libraries actually disposing of books in fire or in the trash; more commonly these establishments have periodical sales where you can pick up cheap but well thumbed books.

Aktually there is a Shitstorm because the German Ministry of Traffic made a Campaign whit Models in Underwear whit a Bycicle Helmet and the text "Looks like Shit but saves my Live" (the Text is also in English)..
The Campaign is Sexistic and made Womans a "Sexsymbol" and such things..

The Intention of the Campaign, to make comerzials for wearing a Bycicle Helmet when you Drive your Bycicle seems to slide in the Background..

Yesterday, when i made my first Bycicle Tour for Yeahrs, i wore my Helmet, even if it looked shit.. ^^

Those advertisments show male and female models, so it is not really discriminating one of the sexes. Which means it is not sexism.

Very often it seems to me that critics of stuff like this confuse sexism with oversexualisation.

BTW, I hope you had a nice and safe bicycle tour.

It was a pretty nice Bicycle Tour, i drowe mostly on Wood and a Way where no Car was,
Only my But hurts a bit now.. ^^

Better to look like shit, then be death because you fell on your head ..

The word is "censor".

There is a difference in that in Fahrenheit 451, all books were burned, not just those which dissent from politically correct orthodoxy.

Why did you attend?
I was there to censor free speech and laugh at the general public, of course. but sadly there was noone there to censor, just a bunch of millenials and feminists. great that we've got people like you who can interpret the fragile political climate so much better than anyone else and explain to everyone how the world conspiracy works. then I went to the supermarket, where they were censoring old milk products out of the shelves, because they were dissident products. next will be poisoning the village well, and then I am off to eat some babies.

I don't know what caused this outburst, but since it is clearly sarcasm, we can conclude that you did not attend for these reasons.

It leaves the question unanswered, though: "Why did you attend?"
why would I even tell you if it isn't obvious? you just came here without reading my argument completely and are insinuating, that I am pro censorship. rather than spilling that bullshit, maybe you shouldn't believe in and spread false propaganda. why are you attacking me? am I defending censorship somehow? do you even know the definition of censorship?
censorship
/ˈsɛnsəʃɪp/
Learn to pronounce
noun
  1. 1.
the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.
"the regulation imposes censorship on all media"
there is no regulation, there is no books being destroyed, there is no books being taken out of shops and libraries countrywide... etc etc etc. noone prohibited their stupid books, FFS.
so stop blowing ONE library (albeit stupidly and unnecessarily) throwing out a few conspiracy tinfoil hat pseudo science books out of proportion. it's a bad decision, not censorship. if you don't know the difference, I can't help you there.

He-Man was/is not the norm. He is one of the male archetypes, but he's one of many and the others are usually more dressed and not necessarily as muscular.
As a boy, most of my toys and cartoons pictured "average" guys with realistic proportions (though there were a few overly-muscular ones, there was - and there still is - a virilistic tendency to use muscular guys as role models which is also part of the "toxic masculinity" culture the feminists are fighting against ) and there were a range of archetypes: goofy, clever, strong.
The women were, most of the time, following the Barbie standards of beauty and were mostly there to look pretty and support/get saved by strong guys.

That, is the problem. Not Barbie itself but the fact that Barbie was - generally speaking - the main representation of what a woman can/should be that girls were given.

It seemed to me you were excusing censorship in one post and sharing your joy at opposing censorship in another. I didn't mean to attack you personally, but just wanted to point out an apparent inconsistency. You have had your opportunity to explain it, and I don't think I need to comment on your response.
yes, it might have "seemed" that way to you. that is the main problem here and why I was arguing in the first place. because "it seems" and "it is" are two very different pair of shoes. and because posting a fake news propaganda video to a forum where volatile topics are discussed right now, is being part of the problem. noone seems to care what actually happened, just what it "seems" like from the scarce misinformation in that video. people get agitated because the perceived unjustice fits their political views, but if I try to counter the misinformation with facts, some douche comes along and accuses me of exactly that... welcome to the internet.

btw. there is actual censorship going on in Germany: the indymedia news portal linksunten has been banned and declared a criminal organization. there have been numerous attempts at repressing the onion/tor community and hacktivists, fablabs and CCC associated organizations with illegal razzias and legal troubles. but thats totally fine, because those people are SJWs and libtards I guess?

This stuff is spreading and yes, they all use synthol.
Why do you think so many modern gals expect every man to be tall and overly pumped although not fulfilling beauty standards themselves? Same shit, but the tides have turned.

...the tides have turned.

I strongly disagree with that turn of phrase. The rubbish women have to put up with didn't magically go away because comparably deleterious nonsense is targeted at men!

Standard Men are expected to be physically powerful, unemotional, and are judged by their earnings.
Standard Women are expected to be sensitive, sociable and obsessed with personal grooming.
Such Standards exist for all sorts of people. Whoever you are, society has stupid expectations to hold you against!

If you don't quite fit this description or that, popular culture tends to work against your goals, and that applies to almost everyone, one way or another.

yep... we lost. fuck. so... shutdown the forum and the file repo and call it a day? (hopefully not...)

@clort actually the term censorship already implies that a government/institution needs to be involved
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_censorship

a private entity cannot censor. you might argue, that a public library is not a private entity, but still a sort of law, decree or regulation must be involved for it to be censorship. otherwise, if they sort out old books that are not relevant anymore (for example disproven scientific literature, obsolete dictionaries, banal literature that is not deemed worthy of storing and stocking by that particular library) would need to be considered censorship, too.
