From Greece with love.

Nice. I really hope but I don't believe that you will be able to move the moulds as I think they will tell you anything about breach of contract and high costs or whatever. :|

So much for the cases - any news with the PCBs?
Apart from that, the PCBs are still finished, so nothing happened there :)
I'm not sure whether Nikolaus finished finalizing the BOM and Machine files needed by GC for the population (my main focus was on the cases...), but I'll check back with him.
Yes, PCB design is still finished. I just have to press a button to generate the latest BOM list and verify with GC that the data exchange works.
There might be a little discussion with GC to replace some capacitors with smaller (in mechanical dimension not µF) ones to reduce production stability problems.
But since this heavily depends on availablility (some MLCC are currently difficult to get) and cost may go up, this is just a short discussion to get the facts for all options and then make a decision.
"Pyra Phone" is currently a hobby project to check if we can redesign the main&displayboard of the Pyra, reuse the Display, OMAP5 board, many other components and most of the software to bring it into a smartphone form factor.
Just to have an alternative for different use cases. Less focussed on gaming since there are no nubs or D-Pad but more focus on communication. Also with external devices by the to multiple SDIO and USB/SATA ports.
As soon as ED is successful with moving the moulds and producing Pyra cases we can start to think about a Pyra-Phone case design. And colors. Unfortunately not a keyboard discussion :)
Good luck!

Few hours later.... and we're finished with everything. We will pack up the moulds tomorrow and arrange pickup for Thursday morning, just to be safe (we don't want that the courier pops up while we're still packing up).

Everything worked out well so far, even though it was quite a long discussion.
Will post a more comprehensive update later tonight... now I seriously need some alcohol :D

I would be personally happy to work on that. I've done some other small case designs lately myself, and a simple phone is nowhere near as complex as a Pyra.

It might make sense having an aluminium body in the end, as that makes things simpler regarding heating :)

Now, lets talk about the ergonomics of using the keybaord in a semi-reclined state after having consumed an unfair amount of alcohol - that is where the lanyard hole really comes into play...

For those for whom the language or temporal barrier may have interfered with the highly visual parody of a running joke based on an English skit from roughly 50 years ago, be assured that there were no Llamas maimed in the process of creating said highly visual parody of a running joke based on an English skit from roughly 50 years ago. Sure, a few were eaten, but is it really a maiming if you cut into them after they're already dead? That's just common butchery. It's not as if I were running a cheese shop.

Edit @Grench : don't worry about the llamas, they have ceased to be.
Edit 2, The Sequel : Just don't turn them into Spam. I don't like Spam.

Happy to hear this update.

As a pre-preorder I would gladly accept a transparent case. Even if this means I must reseat the pcb manually until shoulder buttons work correctly.

Or make a foil hat (for a ground plane reflector) with one of these sticking out of it?

Seriously though - if that antenna at 104mm is a 1/2 wave dipole, the above ideas about running an external antenna aren't all that bad.

If you're willing to have an 'antenna nub' sticking up out of the edge of the device as an 'always on' 1/8 wave @ ~ 14mm, that would be enough for pinging the mobile towers. Only getting 1 bar? Pull out that full 104mm 1/2 wave monopole and get 2-3x the signal. If you really want to roll back to the 70's, have it be made out of multiple sections to stretch to a 220mm and pull the full wave form. Airport security won't likely let you keep it or take it on a plane based on the looks alone.

All that though - those little brick antennas that are going in the Pyra (and that I see here on the PyraPhone project) are supposed to be really good. They might be 75-80% 'as good' as 1/2 wave...?

Reminds me of the spam thread. One way to tell, it seems, if an individual on this forum is genuine, is if they have knowledge and appreciation of Monty Python. At least for members above a certain age.

I want a themed Easter Egg for my Pyra! EvilDragon's not the messiah...!
