whats your favorite anime?

Animatrix is not A cartoon but many different styles of animations. Some made by people who worked on ninja scroll others by the brothers themselves. And in my opinion, yes the 2 made by the brothers were better than the two later movies of the trilogy(man do they suck!! never the suspense, never the intensity, fighting agents= eating crumpets and drinkin tea but the first one will retain a very special place in my heart :))

I think that there is a wall between people who don't like anime and those who do. I think that everyone could like an anime like anyone could like a book or a movie or a song as they are but a media, a vehicule that delivers something. When someone says I don't like movies, anime, music etc.. they stop at the container and never taste what is inside.

So I think that, bringoutthegimp, your logic is this:

If it's animated it's crap.

If it is, then I suggest you open up and treat it as a media like any other. I think it is impossible that you hate ALL anime.

/me wishes noting in my post offends anyone

Original japanese with subtitles is the way!
anyone who likes foreign cinema should realise that subtitled is the only way.

I've recommended films to my hollywood loving co-workers but the general response is that they can't handle reading subtitles....

(these are the same folks who don't read books)
Dubbing is evil, it always sucks.

Klown: have you seen any newer titles, there are some cool stories out recently.
i think there is a fresh insurgence of talent. [ignore my spelling, i know it stinks. i blame the typo-demon who disables my spell-checker and fiddles with my keyb ;) ]

bringoutthegimp: Nelligan is right about dubbed anime, it SUCKS! Never watch with dub only subs. All the post-ers are right about that one.
Also, have you never seen ecchi? or worse! hentai!!!!
anyone here figure out urotsukidoji yet??!!
that's one anime series that has virtually no story and tonnes of sex/violence/hentai/drooling/nakedness and is generally unfathomable.
better to read the manga on that one.
so don't tell me it's "just for kids" arrrgh...can't imagine my younger cousins watching that bit in urot... the hospital scene with the giant, multiple, *censored* attacking all the females and doing *censored* all at the same time and as for the other parts eeek i'm not going there. it's safer not speak about it.
i'll just watch it under the covers at 3am when i know no-one will catch me
and then there's la blue girl! omfg

Personally, the more adult themed anime that is good to watch is stuff like the old Crying Freeman (<<< must get santa to get that relased on R2 dvd and send me the box set version) or if ecchi's you're thing then Chobits or Mahoromatic maybe. Both are funny
Everyone say Chiiii!

I'm not gonna get into the matrix argument, cause i'll be typing forever so i'll leave that one to personal choice.

Has to be said that a lot of the anime OST's are good for listening on the gp32
Bebop has cool jazz
Gravitation has great j-pop
Last exile isn't bad either

But I want my Hikaru no go ost's and no-one's sharing :( want releases in England now or i'm gonna hold my breath till my face goes blue!
waaaa err, sorry

Right now it's "Made In Abyss" - took about 21 minutes to get into but then I began to start seeing how well it is put together.
All through ep2-3 I began noticing how the series is laid out along the principle of a roguelike. There's a hole in the ground and people from the town go down or treasure, have to fight monsters. And there's permadeath.

Reddit even had a thread about making it into a game(s).
[EDIT] I should add, while the backgrounds and story are great and this would make great entertainment for kids, a few completely inappropriate scenes would need editing out first.

The Ancient Magus' Bride, or if movies count, One Stormy Night. I'm very glad that I can take them seriously, the former rides the line occasionally but it's no worse for that, it conquers that pitfall.
