Speculative execution was introduced as a part of the out-of-order architecture of the Pentium Pro.
I'm not too concerned about leaking private data from my Pyra.
The most private data on my Pyra will be saved games from my emulators.

Yep I had one of those, and a jornada 720, dell axim x5.

Just saying you can't call the Pyra tech "new" because it wasn't at the start of the project.

That said we all want it because of the capabilities.

You aren't. I still daily drive my Pandora, and eeepc701. Both of which are 10+ years old

FWIW I've got a 901 which is only nine-and-a-bit years old, but I blatted the Xandros install with a Ubuntu install within a week of getting it, then switched to Debian (6/Squeeze - how retro!) instead of dist-upgrading ubuntu, then once that debian LTS fell out of support I realised that a system that required to to do a dist-upgrade to stay current wasn't for me, so I switched to Arch.

Debian 9, did a net install and with Pale Moon, network-manager, lxde, transmission, pdf reader, smart card setup, vlc and a few other things I still had about 1.3GB of the 3.5GB internal sd left.

Thinking of migrating /home and/or /usr to the sd card.

I understand your situation (only gaming), but I suppose you can understand some of us will use Pyra not only for gaming but also for other stuff (it maybe serious stuff).

I like having a complete computer in my pocket, not only a gaming device. If I like Pyra it is because it is a computer (of course, I played with computer games; In fact I prefer computer games model than console games model).
 
Joining this debate late but I notice a reflection on my Pandora quite often also. I always thought it was because I was gaming but now that I think about it I never noticed it gaming on my phone or NDS SP.

Beware, moving /usr to a separate partition can be problematic. It's what I've ended up doing, because I have what's left of my root partition (basically /etc and a few empty folders) and my /boot on my 4GB internal card. The other internal card in this died a year or two back, so these days I have a 128GB SD card in my external facing card reader, taped over with my /usr, my /var and my /home on it (8GB for /usr, 4GB for /var and the rest for /home). It took a fair bit of farting around with mkinitcpio to create a bootable system though - maybe Debian handles that a bit more smoothly though than Arch, which for once I found a little lacking in documentation - it's all there but it's a little bit scattered as I recall.
 
As far as I understand Spectre/Meltdown, Pentium3 should not be affected. They don't do speculative access to memory as far as I know.

Very interesting. If I understand what you say, Pentium 3 has a limited out-of-order execution (it is P6 micro-architecture) in the way that memory operations can't operate out-of-order. Is is correct?

Can you cite some sources describing this?

In this book http://www.agner.org/optimize/microarchitecture.pdf about x86 code optimization there are info about some Atom CPU which can't do memory operations out-of-order. (From http://www.agner.org/optimize/ )

On Pentium 3 (P6 micro-architecture) I can find on same book: «Writes to memory cannot execute out of order relative to other writes», so I understand it can do memory OoO if it isn't relative to other memory writes. It is a limited OoO memory operation, but OoO memory operations are possible on Pentium 3.

PD: I have a Pentium3 notebook in a closet, but with 512 MB max memory (originally it came with 128 MB) it is too small for today use (even a Raspberry Pi 3 has 1 GB). An Atom with only 2 GB is also small (in RAM) for my normal use.
Even worse, all 64 bit x86 has Spectre bugs. Even fist AMD Operton weren't initially on bug list, but finally they were added :(

Of course, I think Pyra may ship in the latter months of 2018 (If nothing goes really wrong).

I suspect that's got little to do with the processor, and more to do with the peripherals and software. I attached a 802.11n 300Gbps card to my P3 desktop, and installed linux and it turned out to be quite usable, if slow to do disc. I used the internet via lynx a lot while setting everything up.
 
Unfortunately a lot of websites are coded in such a way that they have limited or even no functionality without Javascript.

Seriously, after all this years on computers related stuff, have you ever seen a new language completly replacing any other language? And also keep in mind that there is a huge ammount of flash and java devs so no, it senseless think (or belive) that that was going to happen.
 
What websites are you going to, miniclip? Hardly anyone uses Flash anymore. Chrome is the most popular browser in Western countries and by default you have to click to enable Flash in that. The only time I have to use Flash is on local TV on demand sites such as BBC iPlayer.

HTML5 was never meant to do anything to Javascript. Javascript is being strengthened, not diminished. Like it or not, you need Javascript for things like WebGL.

I can understand people's problem with Javascript, say what you will about that, but the war with Flash is nearly won, it's a non-entity now and it's breathing it's last breath. Support officially ends in 2020.
 
Java is dead on the web. Javascript is alive and thirving, and giving us most of our new exploits. When I'm presented with a blank page after following a link, I have to guess if it's not displaying because I've not enabled enough javascript, or because I've not enabled cookies. Often it's not worth figuring out if they make it that hard though :D

All HTML5 seem to have done is made websites more laggy than Flash probably due to the amount of extra javascript required for certain functions, least it's open I guess.

It's all fine and good until the "SUBSCRIBE TO OUR NEWSLETTER" popup scrolls up at 2FPS with a black overlay that makes the browser unusable until you force close it.
