The tale of the cases

If the OMAP5 supports each channel having a different size, you could even create a 3GB Pyra - 2x1GB on one channel and 2x512MB on the other...
I don't think it works that way. The point of the two channels is to interleave the RAM. Kind of like striping on a RAID 0. I don't think that would work at all if the two controllers have different RAM sizes assigned.

Pretty sure dual channel has never supported mismatched capacity.

I know for sure it doesn't support mismatched spec - it will always go to the slower.

I haven't studied the schematics, but I'd have expected the two controllers just have an enable line on each which would allow them to be multiplexed using a not gate and a few wires i.e. there's no controller above the two controllers controlling things further. And that would include things like dual channel, so I think it's more likely there is this enable line concept and the dual channels are each of the two chips under each controller. Therefore it should be possible to has a setup much like daveshah suggests, if you replace the word 'channel' with 'controller'.

Whether there's any monetary reason for implementing this setup though, I doubt. Maybe ED's left with a bunch of 512MB DDR chips and doesn't have any more 2GB orders coming in, but people are asking for 3GB. The price differential between 2GB an d 4GB is kind of small though, so I'm not sure whether anyone would ever ask for 3GB for a few euros off the price of a 4GB. And getting a new setup like this tested and working can take a while, as we've seen with getting 4GB to work, and doesn't therefore happen for free, so may be even less likely to be made.

And those spare 512MB parts could be held back for the Pyra phone project or something else.

If you decide to make a 3rd portable pc in the future and if i haven't profitted off of the design by then definately message me. It is a design that will blow everything else out of the water (a new architecture)- the only problem is that it needs to be programmed for 2020's visual standards. I have worked out the problems (theoretical problems, not prototype) and it is still only on paper but when it is finished, it will be halfway in between quantum computer (which will never work - it would work better as a demonstration prop for explaining the general idea behind the boltzmann brain hypothesis) and the computers that society currently uses.

Be honest, this was generated by the corporate bullshit generator?

No cases or anything yet... which means the moulds will probably be packed and moved to the new company on Monday.
They've got quite a few different materials in stock (so no need to wait for any plastics) and I'll go visit them to do and discuss multiple test runs.

I think I speak for most, if not all of us when I say you are doing the right thing. You had so many issues with the current company. Even if they did provide the samples now , it's likely you would have had ongoing issues in the future. So cutting your losses so to speak, and moving onto another trusted company is the best approach IMO

I hate to be a doomsayer, but I just can't see the old case company handing over the molds without creating more problems. If their income on this project comes from the case production and not creation of the molds, I would expect them to be reluctant to ship the molds out.

Also, is the machinery at the new company compatible with the format of the molds made by a different manufacturer? I agree that moving the molds to another company is the right thing to do, but experience with manufacturers leads me to believe there will be issues.

Igboo, that's definitely true, but with an agent in Greece, it will go much easier...

My contact even gave them the chance to produce something until Monday... but as they said something about delivery times for the materials a few days ago (they STILL can't get is since August...?), it's more than unlikely anything will be done here.

They won't be shipped, my contact will pick them up personally.
And as they are fully paid and owned by myself, there's nothing they can do.

And I doubt they'll do anything. They're not like that, they're actually pretty nice people.
My guess is that they'll be happy to get the whole thing off their hands...

Injection moulds follow standards. Most of the time, you produce the moulds externally. Their connection fits to any machine.

Wasn't a French company supposed to concoct a plastic specific to the Pyra's molds with just the right viscosity, etc.? Will this new company's materials work fine with the molds?
