GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

I envy you guys who don't have any crashes! Say, maybe someone with a stable Z8750 unit could run "driverquery /V" for me and post the results?

I did not disable anything on my "standard" model, and it still works quite well while beeing used daily for about three hours. Currently Minecraft is on most of the time which leaves me with about 65% battery capacity at the end of the day (with some light WLAN+Browsing here and there). Hinge got a little loose now (but still stays in position) and the charging is unreliable (and sometimes the device makes a annoying sound while charging) but otherwise it still works fine. There are some very rare "hickups" like a frozen desktop, invisible mousepointer or the controls are not repsonding, but nothing a restart would not fix.

As always it depends on where the priorities are: the Pandora certainly excels (compared to the win) in terms of keyboard, screen readability in sunlight, battery runtime, versatility, emulation and SD-Card speed (it very slow on the WIN) . The WIN ist certainly the far better choice if webbrowsing is a big concern or 720p (and above) Videos

Edit: forgot some points

Wait I will buy a Pyra for sure. I need something until the Pyra is avaible because my Pandora broke down. And I am not sure if I should go for a second hand Pandora or a GPD Win. But since there are instabilities with the WIN I think I will go for a second hand Pandora.

Don't go for a second hand gpdwin, and only buy it from a trusted vendor with great service, given the history of issues... Do I need to mention that Ed is selling them by the way?

Both consoles serve different goals, if you want retro emulation only, a Pandora is is better, a gpd win is ok for retro emulation, but where it shine is when coupled with steam...

Edit: where do you live by the way? Haven't used my 1Ghz pandora for months...

I have the impression that the WIN suffers from bad quality control. The users who have frequent crashes probably have units that should have been rejected by QC.

As far as I'm aware , there have been two batches were there were issues of bad graphic driver crashing with the WIN. Once when it launched, some people got crashing WINs - most were fine. This problem was resolved quickly. Then again when they went with the 8750 in the west - some of the inital batches to some vendors had an issue(not sure if it was exactly the dgraphics driver issue again or something with the RAM). If you have a crashing WIN, it's not something IMO you should be wasting your time trying to fix. Send it back and get a replacement would be my advise - you could try the resistor pack fix from GPD, but I personally would send it back.

As for my WIN, I didn't change anything with it since ive had it, and ive never had an issue with it.

There's also issues with keyboards I think, don't heard about too much other issues through...

Switzerland here so shipping is possible, it's second hand, I'll send some details and pics regarding the state if you are interested in a ghz Pandora...

@elwing
Hmm, I must admit I haven't really got into emulation on the WIN. That said , the comments I have read about it on Dingoonity, is that it is better on the WIN than on the Pandora. So I'm curious to know why you like the Pandora better for emu's?

You get some more powerful emulator, for sure, but worst battery life, worst controls, glossy screen, if you want to play gamecube emulation Pandora is not the way to go, up to psx, at least, Pandora is better

@elwing
Worse controls, you mean you prefer the nubs over sticks? I don't think I agree there.

As for the glossy screen, you can buy a screen protector anti glare for it . It's from a Japanese third party that have started selling accessories for the WIN. With that, I think the screen being bigger and higher res, is probably going to WIN out (see what I did there - ok I'll stop now :p)

I agree with elwing, you have better performance on the Win, but up to the psx I'd rather play on the Pandora (easier to get and configure emulators, controls work out of the box without having to switch modes, can turn off the Pandora screen with TV-out while keeping controls, etc.)

The only reason I'd see to prefer the Win would be the wider choice in emulators, including some with specific features that might not be on the Pandora.

Actually I am talking about the cross button and shoulder buttons. The sticks are better than the nubs, for sure but for retro emulation I am not using analog controls... As I said, if you want some retro emulation, Pandora is the way to go, if you want more modern emulation, or steam, go for gpd win...

I think if you wanted something just for emu's and were mindful of $ also., I'd probably choose neither the WIN , Pandora or Pyra. I'd probably recomend the GPD XD whcih can be picked up new for $160.

But in regards to the WIN shining for PC gaming, I agree, that is it's strong point. And it's a massive strong point

That said gpdwin controls are decent, battery life is not too shabby, given these and the fact that i am enjoying steam games (just finished icewind dale hearth of winter after icewind dale and bg1 & 2 and their extensions...
[doublepost=1498568585,1498568519][/doublepost]Actually I am pretty certain you can find second hand Pandora for less, but I agree...

I personally use a lot the GPD WIN for retro emulation and is works fantasticly well, not sure what you are your talking since I don't own a Pandora.

Well the D-pad isn't great but I almost never use it, and yes you need to set everything before playing.

Don't get me wrong, GPDwin is pretty good too, but controls on the Pandora(beside the nubs...) are top notch, only the shoulder buttons are slightly worst, but the gpd win is even worst when it comes to shoulder buttons. Battery is ok, but Pandora gets twice as long on a charge. Then you get the glossy screen vs mate of the Pandora... And if you don't plan to only do retro emulation, the GPDwin is a better choice.

Make that nubs and trigger buttons. Yup, GPD Win's trigger buttons probably wobble a lot to be comfortable, but my left trigger on the Pandora broke only after a month of usage. It wasn't any hard usage either. But yeah, Pandora offers great compatibility for retro emulators. Any modern emulator you'll find on the GPD Win (Cemu, for example) won't have playability for more than 3-4 games because they are designed to work with more powerful hardware.
