Looks like another crowdfund campaign has started to try and deliver a UMPC. This time it's based on the Snapdragon 835 and Windows 10 or Android. Specs and design look good, but I must admit, it just seems to be concept at this stage and not a lot of substance behind it. Also, It's a huge stretch to call it a UMPC given that it is 25.6cm wide by 15cm deep.

Not much known about the team as well, which is worrying

P.S Surprise, once again, the majority of backers so far are from Japan

Just comparing the dimensions against a tablet I have , the KS-Pro is going to be huge. More like a laptop than a UMPC.

Also, good luck gettting a custom made 8" curved edge screen

Windows 10 on an ARM device. People will buy it and if it delivers return it because none of their usual applications work. Mark my words.

And why does the KS-PROID cost 450$, but the KS-PRO 600$? The hardware is the same, and doesn't the Windows license come free for system builders of small devices (<10" screens, if I remember correctly)?

With the pretty good specs, big battery, AMOLED display and magnesium alloy case, I don't think they'll actually be able to produce it for 450$, let alone sell it at that price with a profit margin. At least it's not flexible funding...

EDIT: Okay, so the 600$ version includes a case with an "inbuilt battery which will double the on time of the KS-PRO" so probably another 10,000-12,000 mAh. I'll give them that, this would be pretty handy. Still, I don't think this thing is feasible with a curved 8" AMOLED screen at that price and quantity and they'd have to do a VERY good job at informing customers about the restrictions of Windows on ARM if they don't want to see half of their units return in the first week, if it ever gets to that.

Reading their crowdfunding page. It seems they plan other models in the future inlcluding KS-Play which will be optimised for Steam/ PC Gaming . That is if this ever materializes. Big if

Apparently Qualcomm have been working with Microsoft to get Windows working on the Snapdragon 835 etc - basically some sort of emulation I think, it allows x86 windows 10 , apps and games to run on it.

wow, that's the tiniest "spec sheet" i've ever seen (but someone already asked for a better one in the comments) o_O and the whole pitch reads like some generic marketing blah. not sure if this thing is a rushed scam, or if the people behind it are really just tech nerds who don't know how to write a good project description :/

I vote for scam... Most hardware campaigns that don't go ks to avoid the prototype requirement are either scam or so badly managed and utopian that they almost never deliver anything...

Edit: nice render through...

Assuming this persons task at microsoft was not the production of the intelli mouse,
prior experience: dubious.

You cant just do something Apple and Samsung are incapable of on a 300k budget.
But lets say they, qualcomm, and everyone else just magically got together to improve
indiegogos reputation for hardware products.

Where does Samsung make, or sell 8.2" AMOLEDs?

Windows 10, a meme-tier OS you cant get licensing for on low runs like this.
Having worked there, you would think this person knew that. But ok, maybe that is an insider thing.

"GPS with AGPS" "Amoled"

I dont understand how that hinge would even work, nor how you get a sensor small enough to get F1.7 on that small of a lens. But hey, there is more.

Patented mouse function.
Want to know where the "quick fingerprint scanner" is?

Right hand speaker is in the way of the connection for that screen. Which as you may know, is not a 16:9 screen, but a 9:16 one rotated to fit this purpose. That is, if it existed.

Aaaaand the keyboard assumes 10 finger operation.

Did I mention it is a scam?

That obviously-a-render design would fold into the lower half on the top, but catch on the sides.

Even in a dream world where this could eventually be produced, I wouldn't be interested.
I mean, how can anyone think that a glossy curved screen is a good idea for this form-factor ?

Never said the device was nice, just the rendets... Even on phone I can't see a real use of these curved screens...

So the campaign ended way short of the funding goal, but, they then extended the campaign by 2 weeks. Unfortunately the extension hasn't helped, a week into the extension, the campaign has only succeeded in going backwards.
