THE NUMBERS IMAGE THREAD!

Yep...it's kinda like that. 60% over price + shipping cost, then 18% (it's not 17% anymore) over the last total. Plus the customs clearance. And I don't know if it would be subject to IPI.

Sure there's a lot of worse places than Brazil. But it sure sucks big time in here - a country full of great resources, but badly managed.
That is madness. How about if this comes as a kit you assemble yourself, are there differences? Or maybe ED could give you a "special discount" for some reason. Not advocating tricking the law here. *looksforcoughdrops*

What about if someone sends you one, like a gift, instead of you purchasing it? Are there massive fees for gifts?

As it is today, there are no gifts. Everything above a hundred bucks pays the 60% import tax. Above 500, 60% + 18%...

Brazil is a pretty mad place...

Since the Pyra is built to be repaired, I assume that, at some point, replacement parts are going to be sold at Dragonbox. I intend to buy all of them, not at the same time, and then build the device at home.

Discounts, unreal values...well, anything lying about the values is not the answer. It's bad for the seller and risky for the buyer, who may end up being fined...and paying double (over all the previous price, shipping and craptaxes).

wow. at that point it's almost worth buying a ticket to Germany and bringing one back.

but i suppose you get hit at customs in the airport?

Yeah. But then, you pay only (hah...) 60% over what exceeds US$500. So if I have US$700 worth of stuff, tax is gonna be US$120.

still pretty brutal.

i never understood this stuff. i mean, once you use some electronic piece of equipment, even once, the price drops quite a bit, so i don't understand how you're supposed to say it's still worth $X even when you paid $X, but if you were to sell it you'd probably only make $X/2... (well, maybe the Pyra is an exception to that :))

when i went to the NL for an extended stay, the customs people didn't want anything to do, even though i was trying to tell them i had brought in some laptops. very briefly, they asked if it was for personal use, and when i told them it was, they told me to skip customs. then they went back to chatting with each other. (not complaining, btw.)
