The Communication Cube

...thieves equipped with angle grinder and van...

Lord have mercy. All of that for a damn bike.

I reckon the crime would be much more serious in New Orleans once angle grinders enter the equation, like breaking into someone's house when they have an iron door. Thinking about it, taking an angle grinder to one would still be a challenge; you couldn't even pull one of those doors off the house with a truck.

In any case, criminals out here aren't that smart or committed.

I'm not a fan of those aero wheels personally.

Aerospoke wheels (and similar) seem to be among the most polarizing things in the planet when it comes to bikes.

Never had a problem with v-brakes either, though you need to pump them in the wet to sluice the water off the rim before they'll grip.

V-brakes are perfectly fine. I just like the "new shiny" is all, and I see disk brakes as that next step in bike technology evolution.

Plus, my bike has all the accommodations for a disk brake, and the rear hub I want accommodates one as well.

Disc brakes do make taking your wheel off more complex, but I'd consider them essential if you expect to go off-road and get the bike muddy for example.

Eh. Something I could live with. Taking the wheel off shouldn't be a common chore anyway.

I assume that old bike is a steel framed bike - I'd love to have a steel bike.

It be aluminum.

...unfortunately I had parts stolen in my own bicycle basement/garage by neighbours already, including a basket I had secured with four cable straps.

Once I just went into a supermarket for 5min and in that time someone stole one of the well secured luggage spanners I use to stop bags from flying out of the basket.

Give them 10min and they'll take the chainwheel and handlebars as well.

I hate people.

I'm not surprised in the least. The things people would do for only a part of a bike.

Punctures are the main reason I take the wheel off my bike fwiw. Theoretically, especially if you can see the nail that caused the puncture, you can pop the tyre where around where the puncture is and patch it in situ, but I usually find I both can't see the tiny bit of glass that reached my inner tube, and usually have a couple of pinch holes to patch after having ridden it before i realised it was crippled. Simpler to pull the tube on first instinct and repair it at home later, even if that does mean taking the wheel off.

I dotnt know where to put this in, but
Look at my GBA Collektion, my GBA Collektion is amazing :)

I never really bought into the notion that Google Maps likes to guide people through the hood...but I had my first experience with Google Maps guiding me through the hood yesterday. Twice.

All I wanted was to ride my bike to City Park, do some sprints, and ride back. In that order. I ended up doing sprints through the two hoods just to get out of them (no nearby main road had a bike lane), getting to the park, half-assing my sprints, and cruising home.

~8 miles to and from the park and 3 miles of worthless sprints, so ~19 miles in total. Not too bad, but an optimized route could save me some energy. Luckily, some of the bus lanes in downtown serve as bike lanes, so no more skirting past the "baby projects."
[doublepost=1471219230,1471218772][/doublepost]Also, while traveling through the Lower Garden District on the way back, I noticed someone planted a Pikachu statue where an old, broken fountain is. The 2nd picture is for the fountain, not the Pikachu. *edit: I noticed...

Crazy. Pokemon GO is taking over my city, y'all!

Hmm...thinking about it, I probably should've taken a selfie with it to prove these pics are mine. Oh well, assume what you will.

Illegally erected...

True, but the city has a ten-mile-long list of issues to deal with that don't involve taking down the statue...then again, the city only acts if people complain about it.

Illegal or no, I think it's pretty cool. The statue's hurting no one's feelings.

interesting... already a wikipedia article...

Gonna have to go to the Lower Garden District again to see if it's still there, but yeah. Citation is definitely needed for that last sentence.

That's fiberglass? I guess with leet spraycan skills you could get that, but nicely done!

There's someone in Uptown leaving spray-painted "works" all over the place. I'm not sure if it's the same person, but people around here seem to have either leet spraycan skills or, at the very least, leet stenciling skills.

For instance, here's a bird on Chippewa St.:

Some writing that could pass as modern art on the Garden District side of Harmony St.:

It's not uncommon to see graffiti in the city, but this is a far-cry from the street/gang graffiti you'd normally see on abandoned project buildings or train cars or old storefronts or what-have-you. I do apologize that I can't prove that these pics are mine outside of finding these again and re-taking pics with me in them, but I swear up-and-down I took these pics myself.

Just found my two missing scorpions cds:
"Crazy World" and "Eye to Eye"
Now my Scorpions Folder on Ipod Touch is allmost complete for my, yes i know there are more than 9 CDs from the Scorpions, but for me its ok for now..

Blind Guardian, Scorpions and Ramstein are the most famous German Bands in the World :)

And on Friday there will be new CDs from Faun and Feuerschwanz :)

Lots of musik for me to hear..

Went to Lower Garden District again and i can confirm that the Pikachu statue is gone. Didn't bother taking a picture; there's nothing special about that old fountain.

Weather and right leg permitting, I think I'm gonna take an ~80mi bike ride. I saw the challenge on Strava and saw that US Bike Route 90 gives me a relatively straight shot to Slidell and back. My rides have been much shorter than that because I usually treat them as exercise rather than transportation. Hence, I don't pace myself. If I pace myself here, then it should be quite feasible.

Besides, it will be much, much easier where I am due to the lack of elevation changes. All I'd really need to bring is some Propel, tire repair kit, maybe some snacks (I plan on stopping in Slidell for food, so only enough for if I get hungry while on USBR 90), fully-charged phone, wallet, and keys.

Got some PS4 Slim being offered to me, but looking 350 on them :)
They meant to be hitting shelves at ~250 only though, so don't think I'd pay that premium for the 3 weeks early access before they on sale everywhere.
The Neo might be worth it, but the Slim is not offering much more than the slimline design is it?

*sigh*

I got to the Westbank, and just as I was facing the path to Slidell, I looked up and saw no sky, no sun. NOPE!!!! Couldn't do it! I got back to Lakeview and it started raining (plus I got strong headwinds AND I had to keep going over the levee). Got to City Park and it stopped raining. Got to Mid-City and it started raining. I'm home and it's not raining in my neighborhood...yet. So basically Mother Nature is messing with me.

I chose my snack wisely though. That ham/cheese/braunschweiger sandwich had me like
