Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

Hm, sadly my bank keeps denying the charge. I have Citi bank and the transaction doesn't seem to want to go through :(

I will NOT get the US 4G model if it is required to use Verizon's network. I would much rather go with 3G if those were my only 2 choices.
The only difference between the two is that it supports Verizon's band 13 LTE, and the PLS8-US does not. It's not locked into Verizon's network. I really hope another comes out in the future that's pin compatible and supports t-mobile's band 12.

I'd probably prefer the PLS8-X as well, but whether I'd be willing to pay more depends on how much more it is.
(But if it's not much more in the first place, maybe the Verizon users would be willing to cover the expense for upgrading all the US models anyway?)
I'm assuming PLS8-X would have a separate 500 MOQ from PLS8-US...

Hmm, I thought I remembered PLS8-US supporting T-Mobile just fine... what does band 12 effect?

Band 12 is the 700 MHz block A that T-Mobile won over a year ago. 700 MHz being a lower frequency has a longer range (quite a bit more complicated but that's the layman's explanation). LTE is still supported on bands 2 and 4 and they have no plans on changing that as far as I can tell. They're trying to use multiple bands at once currently for faster speeds in the future. The greater coverage of T-Mobile's LTE in the past 18 months or so is due in a large part to the acquisition of band 12.

I have to say I also get confused with all the different 4G frequency ranges. I got the EU version and I believe it should also work in Japan.
At least to some extend as it seems there are many different frequencies being used and it's not a perfect match with the EU Mobile chip.

If somebody actually has good knowledge of mobile network in Japan, I would like their input.
It seems how would likely just have to find out if and how well it works...

Hopefully we'll get the option to buy new mainboards in the future as mobile tech changes or better chips become available. I don't have a $7000 machine to replace these chips with.

Preordered one just now. I'm glad I held back on buying a Pandora (not by choice though ^^), now that there's a successor coming XD

You understand you wouldn't be able to use the 3G on Verizon either? The only option for Verizon is the PLS8-X, and you'd only get service where they have LTE coverage with no fallback.

I preordered. I've been following Pyra's development occasionally for two years. I'm glad to see it getting close to release. I'm really looking forward to using it, I've wanted a new handheld with a physical keyboard for a long time.

Exactly. I have no interest in Verizon (and that is why I said what I did). While it may be slower than 4G in the US, 3G would be useful if I was traveling around the world a lot, again.

I don't mind if other people want to use Verizon, as long as we aren't forced into using them if we want a US 4G Pyra. Looking at the numbers at present, we will be lucky to get any US 4G, and 2 different modules seems extremely unlikely.

@EvilDragon Some additional questions for the Pre Order FAQ :
  • When do you plan to find out if the 4GB Version works correctly + what impact it has on battery life & performance (compared to swap file)?
  • Do the prices quoted include delivery charges?
  • If not what would the delivery charge be to Country X?
  • When you say 'The Mobile Edition adds mobile internet (3G/4G), GPS as well as different sensors (Altometer, Hygrometer, Barometer, Compass)' do you mean that these sensors are different to the Altometer, Hygrometer, Barometer, Compass sensors on the standard edition or that (as suspected) these sensors do not appear on the standard edition? If the latter is the case then please consider changing the wording to something like : 'The Mobile Edition features mobile internet (3G/4G), as well as additional sensors (GPS, Altometer, Hygrometer, Barometer, Compass)
  • If as suspected the additional sensors do not appear on the standard edition, what was the thinking behind only including them with the Mobile edition?
General Questions :
  • Based on the fact that over 97% of pre orders are for the 4GB version is it worth considering making 4GB the default option and scrapping the 2GB option?
  • Would you like some help with wording on the English Pre Order Page? Don't get me wrong it's OK as it is, however there are certain parts that could benefit from additional clarity, especially if you're hoping to attract pre orders from people who have not closely followed the project.
  • Would you like some help translating the Pre Order pages into other languages? Spanish, French & Japanese spring to mind.

I'm not 100% as informed as I was around when I got my phone but my US moto G3 does not get 4G coverage on y-mobile/softbank. presumably if I had the carrier au it would work, since they use a compatible band for the 4G.

My nexus 5 however has worked splendidly in Japan and Sweden. (softbank/y-mobile and telenor respectively)

hope that helps some

OH! I get the confusion.
The PLS8-X is the PLS8-US with an additional band for supporting Verizon. You wouldn't be forced to use Verizon, you'd be as free to use any carrier you'd want as supported by the chip with the addition that you could use Verizon if you wanted.

PLS8-US:
Quad Band LTE: 700/850/AWS (1700/2100)/1900 MHz;
FDD-Band (17,5,4,2); Tri Band UMTS (WCDMA): 850/AWS
(1700/2100)/1900 MHz; FDD-Band (5,4,2)
Quad Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

PLS8-X:
Penta Band LTE: 700/700/850/AWS (1700/2100)/1900 MHz;
FDD-Band (13,17,5,4,2)Tri Band UMTS (WCDMA): 850/AWS
(1700/2100)/1900 MHz; FDD-Band (5,4,2);
Quad Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

So if the X has everything that the US one does, plus support for what Verizon uses, that does seem the better choice (because the whole thing is a mess in this country, or maybe the continent). So what is the price difference for the X module?

Edit: I also didn't see when @Ocean112 replied to me, which would have cleared up my confusion sooner.
