Pyra-tan?

That was the most extreme, but neither of the images posted so far are acceptable as the face of the Pyra (nor were they acceptable for the Pandora) for the reasons I stated.
  • NO ONE EVER SAID ANYTHING OF THE SORT about these being the face of the Pyra (and Pandora) and you know it.

You might like to look at those sorts of images. There's nothing wrong with that, what goes on in the privacy of your own head is your affair.
  • (you're trying to make something seem sordid) If you have actually been reading any of my posts, you would know that ISN'T the case.

There were many, many others in the original GP2X forum that were as bad.
  • That doesn't have anything to do with this thread about Pyra-tan, or likely the original intent for Pandora-tan.

Lo and behold.... the cesspit.

*but my rights!*

Right you are then.

This is so incredibly dumb.

Made to look serious and 'mature'.... yet all it amounts to is needless pointless drama.

The censorship police can kiss my... oh, wait, no actually you can't kiss that... sorry to give you THE WRONG IDEA.

1. Yes they did, that's why we're having this discussion.

2. It is sordid. There's only one possible reason for drawing little girls in sexually mature clothing, or with adult proportions.

3. Pyra-tan is being proposed for the same reasons that Pandora-tan was. I agree with intent, but "the road to hell" and all that.

D.

This discussion offends me. Please remove and never show it to the public again.
Oh wait, I shouldn't go around and tell people what to post?
As long as it doesn't break the forum rules (I'd love to quote them, but I seriously can't find a link to them), no one here is in the position to tell them to not post their art. It's seriously not my problem if you get offended by all anime-styled art, no matter how tame it is.
Next is that we're not allowed to draw female characters, but wait, that would be sexist again, wouldn't it?

Be offended.  Feel free to bombard my inbox or threads I post in with statements of how you feel offended.  Since you obviously skipped the rest of my post I will continue to ignore your feigned offended state and other claims.

As stated, I don't care about the sexism, and that isn't the point.  As I said, do as you wish but be prepared for the consequences.

Lo and behold.... the cesspit.

Glad I could help.

OH THE WORMS!!! THE WORMS!! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!! QUICK, SOMEBODY GRAB THE CAN!!! I CAN'T HOLD THEM MUCH LONGER!!!!

Alright people this is getting out of hand.

First you say that the image i posted is dubious looking for its appearnce, which is a valid opinion to have. Now i start hearing it's for some reason offensive to people as if it were some NSFW content that was posted inappropriately.. which i personally fail to understand, but if that's the case fine, let me know and i'll just put it inside spoilers if it's that troublesome to many of you.

What's annoying though is that for some freaking reason, this thread had to take a plunge into a compleatly derailed discussion on whether, one, generally loose, non-absolute by any stretch, example for an Artistic concept out of all things, is (sexually) offensive or not.

It was already clearly stated, several times now, that this was not the goal of this thread, nor was it to promote the kind of artwork that contained any kind of unappropriate themes (for the record though, the image ZXDunny was talking about was this one [NSFW-ish] and i think we can all agree that it's indeed pathetic and is not wanted here, which was the reason why i didn't post it in the first place).

If anyone didn't like the artwork initially posted, that's fine. But at leaset acknowledge that they were just an example of a concept, not any kind of guidline. Any artist wanting to contribute will likely take your opinion in mind and create something different for the community.

Now if i may ask: If we have this esteblished by now, why is this still being discussed on the expense of this thread again?

Is there perhaps another reason some of you might have a problem with the concept in question?

I suspect that the "Amen" was agreeing with my reasoning. By creating and distributing these images you're promoting the idea that females are here to serve and pleasure males. And that is wrong.

D.

Obviously, yes.

Again, that's not the pourpse here (read what i posted before for more details). The idea behind the thread is to have an Artistic vision of what the Pyra might look like if it were represented in human form, which was demonstrated in a general (and loose) example using a previous vision of human-like Pandora's girls.

Yeah, but for "normal" people, the entire "...-Tan" concept  is surely a little bit strange. Meaning, the personification of things into an Manga Character. So the opposite of "objectification" actualy. (I guess this is simply "personification"). I learned that even OS have a Tan-Chan-whatever, hell, every Windows version has an individual Char, strange but funny.

Recent OS-tan by the way (more or less "official" but who knows).

And an sad story what happens to old OS-tans *sniff*:

R.I.P. XP-tan. It was nice as long as it lasted. ^^"

I've read they still use Win 3.1 on French Airports so yeah, XP may be even not that dead. :)

Was OUYA even long enough alive to be out of the diaper age? I hope they had not much time to make a OUYA-Tan, would be indeed a very short and sad story.

Here's another, more mature example based on the Hetalia series. It's a Doijinshi portraing the abolition of Prussia and the aftermath of WW2 using anthropomorphic countries (Full version):

Ewww... I really prefer the more cute and peaceful and female -Tan's over this. Besides that most germans are very happy that something like Prussia doesn't exist anymore. ;)

Next step is "Polandball" then I guess?

I'm fairly certain that I recall one pandora-tan which, in an effort to add a keyboard to her (as that is a distinguishing feature of the pandora) the author added breasts - one for each key on the keyboard. Can't find the original thread, but it really was pathetic.

And if that's not sexually orientated, I don't know what is.

Sexism and the objectification of women is unacceptable, not because it's wrong in and of itself, but because it teaches males that women are there for their use and gratification. A woman may act like a total slut when in private with a man that she has chosen to be with, but that's her choice - the male does not dictate how she should dress or behave. By removing the onslaught of media-based and societal sexism, we can start to teach young males that women may choose to do whatever they want, and they will grow up to be responsible adults that are not a threat to females.

By creating images of women in clothing of dubious utility, with unrealistic proportions and attitudes that are plainly there to serve men, we're sending the wrong message and preventing women from taking their place in society as our equals. They've been fighting for this for many decades now, and it's time we started to support them rather than view them merely as things to take pleasure in.

D.

And that line gets crossed once it's drawn. At that point it becomes art, and if you're offended by an art form, it's not your place to suppress it simply because you don't agree with it.

Since you obviously skipped the rest of my post I will continue to ignore your feigned offended state and other claims.

I simply didn't feel like repeating what other people said. 90% of this debate is about opinions. Opinions are opinions, nothing else. Pushing them on others generally doesn't end up in anything worthwhile. I don't like the concept of censorship based on mere opinions, though, so that's what I'm mainly responding to.

But if you'd like my opinion on the rest of your post, which I supposedly didn't read at all:
So a few members have told us their discomfort with this kind of fan art... okay. At the same time others stated that they like the idea of having a Pyra-tan character around, as they exist for tons of other hard- and software (some even officially) and haven't really had a negative impact on sales yet (burden of proof is on the positive claim here). Sexist is a pretty broad term and for many iterations it's also pretty subjective. Why a drawing of a girl in dress is sexist is beyond me, but that's not even the point. The topic doesn't even specify how a Pyra-tan would have to look like. But if the mere idea of having a female drawing in an anime-style is sexist... Ah well. Everybody is offended at something. I've been on the internet for too long to cater for people who want to censor content which is completely tame and doesn't break any rules. Heck, I don't even mind the worms up there.

The above paragraph is my opinion and I'm aware that I'm repeating myself and it doesn't help this discussion at all. You asked for it, though.

Oh yeah, as this IS an international community, there might be those who don't know what the "opening a can of worms" stuff was about...

It's an idiom meaning, you (often unexpectedly) set in motion or discover something that has wide-reaching (usually negative) consequences.

Feel free to become unreasonably offended by this as well, if you'd like.

Everything is problematic, especially if you micro-analyse absolutely everything. Just stick to beige cubes.

I'd be interested in seeing a Pyra-tan, but I'm looking more forward to perhaps seeing a mascot like a Phoenix for the Pyra.

Ok, I JUST clicked that link for ZXDunny's shinning example of Pandora-tan filth........

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HILARIOUS!!!!

COME ON! THAT IS AN OBVIOUS JOKE! It's CLEARLY parodying hyper-sexualized female imagery (a breast for each key? XD )!

The best part is that ZXDunny doesn't even seem to realize that his shining example of Pandora-tan filth is ALSO mocking the over-sexualization of female imagery (it's arguing AGAINST the SAME THING AS HIM)!

BREASTS! BREASTS, EVERYWHERE!!!!!! XD

The Prussia one is probably the most offensive due to sheer idiocy.
