Why I think we might see a "3 Year anniversary of Pyra development?". :p
This is a joke as Pyra development is going very well and we got a lesson from the Pandora.
Congratulations, ED and the Pyra team!

Better than a 2 Months™ of Pyra Development.

Doesn't time fly when you're having fun :)

I've only been popping in every month or two until recenrly but things are really going great guns now. Once again congrats to ED and the team. Here' s hoping you sell pyras by the bucket load.

Hm, how many generations of Smartphones and Tablets are that 2 Years actualy? ;)   Well, but we can say that good things takes it's time for sure here.

I remember the device being discussed in late January or February 2012 in Germany.  It didn't have a name, but ED was kicking around the successor for the Pandora way back then.

Indeed, ED, Link and I had a meeting with a Ti guy at ED's office during the Rebirth era.
If I remember right, the CPU for the Pandora 2 was supposed to be a DaVinci.
Also, the modular choice (CPU daughter board) was already made.

Well Davinci is the name Ti gave to their video processing core on the OMAP5 and used on their other SoCs as well. Essentially what the Cortex M4's do on board.

DaVinci is the "consumer" series of some of their chips.
The 1GHz Pandoras use a DaVinci (DM3730), the professional series is the OMAP.

I think Ti is over-using their code-names if that is the case...

But where did you find that the Video Processing core of the OMAP5 is called DaVinci? I didn't find that name anywhere in the datasheet?

Honestly not sure anymore, I swear I saw references to it in their GL SDK and such... Internet searches are not finding any such connection... I see references to IVA-HD though...

Some connections in my brain about the C64x DSP in the OMAP3 once being referred to as "DaVinci", but it's entirely possible that the speaker meant the DSP simply pushed it into the "video processor" category and I didn't understand at the time.

At least the free DSP booklet I've got for OMAP3 calls it that quite a few times.

Could it be you're mixing up "DaVinci" (processor range) and "Ducati" (on OMAP5: M4 cores + IVA-HD)?
