Seeing we'll have low power Bluetooth 4.0 in the Pyra it'd be fun to have a Streetpass esque application so we can spot other pyra users in the crowd.

Possible things to announce via PyraPass:

* Forum Username

* Last C4A score

* Comment on person

I'm probably only likely to come across superroach at the beginning but i'm sure finding other mysterious Pyra users at major events like PAX would be fun.

+ GPS location

+ picture

(both optional of course)

= Makes it more easy to find those other Pyra people :)

Yeah, I don't want this.
So don't turn it on :p No one wants to find you anyway. ;)

Anywho, I vaguely remember when this was brought up for the Pandora. Does anyone remember how that discussion actually went down? Did it just never materialize because too much effort or did someone raise some legitimate concerns?

Streetpass was one of my favourite elements of the 3ds, but thats a system with millions of units shipped.

I doubt Ive ever passed another pandora in my life. let alone numerous ones daily. Still if the pyra gets traction it would be a cool distraction. if implemented thoughtfully and was designed to be opt in only.

I've always found systems that provide a passive benefit to yourself/others just by carrying it around (Nintendo 3ds Streetpass, Karma Wi-Fi sharing) to be fascinating.

With that said, it's hard to find a practical use for such a thing outside of a game. (I personally wouldn't use the contract-sharing thing. Plus, like directive0 said, I'd be surprised to ever see another Pandora or Pyra out in the wild where I live.

I don't have an issue with this, but it'd have to be opt-in on all levels. Opt in to leave bluetooth on and pyrapass running. Optional picture, optional forum name, optional c4a score sending etc. Only thing that wouldn't have to be optional is GPS, as of course that would be the receivers GPS location when they get the ping.

I don't honestly know how many users would even get past the first option. Myself I'd probably only turn it on if I'm going anywhere. I might use it more if I was still living in a big city though.

Seems like running before we can walk, really.

Make a high-quality device running fun and useful software that appeals to as much of the target market as possible.

Then worry about features that only work if you have a large userbase

For this device, a better option might be a geo-location application.

Here's the idea:

Create an application that can harvest your latitude/longitude (at a location of your choosing - coffee shop nearby?) and log into these boards as your alias. It could then update the 'Location' data on your profile with your chosen Lat/Long. A database could then map these out and find the closest Pyra users or Pyra users within X distance.

Odds are that unless you live in a VERY densely populated area AND the Pyra sells in the 100,000+ range, you're not likely to walk past someone else with one in their pocket.

I absolutely LOVE the Streetpass games on my 3DSs. I take mine everywhere I go in the hope of linking with someone. I doubt I'd ever pass another Pyra in real life, but you never know.... Anyway, meet ups could be rewarding and fun with a StreetPass type feature.

With they gyroscope we can still create games that use footsteps as a virtual currency within games designed for it, a la streetPass.

You know... when I was a kid I loved the Digimon. Not the crazy franchise it turned into but the simple virtual pet that you raised and fought with others.

Its crazy to me that nobody has ever taken those and the Pikachu pedometer concept and used that for a virtual pet kind of idea where the very act of walking or running levels up your little dood that you can then battle with friends for fun times. Maybe even have the battles be events you don't witness but review when you get home. I know people already get really attached to their daily step counter "score" but imagine if there was a game based incentive to go for a walk or take your device on your hike etc. You could have a system where each day your steps become XP and while on your journey any streetpasses play out as quick battle events that when you get home you can see how many battles you've had and how you fared.

Maybe not an idea for the Pyra, but I keep hoping somebody will make something like this so I throw the idea out there any chance I get.

There'd only be a 14% chance of me meeting another Pandorian where I live in Melbourne, Australia...and it would probably Wally.
FTFY.   It's too soon to say what the likelihood of meeting another Pyranian will be.   If it sells well the chances might end up being somewhat higher. :)   (not necessarily a lot higher,  given how spread out Melbourne is,  but still..)
