Your Retail Therapy?

I bought a second 3DS with an older firmware in order to use flashcards.

And one day after that the Nintendo direct announced the NEW 3DS (I'll get that one at European launch date of course) which obviously will come with newer firmware.

That's what I call wasted money.

But it's worth the few months I don't have to swap cartridges.

I tend to suffer from impulsive buying now and then. Pandori, 3D printer, Electronic Drumset, X-Wing Miniatures game pieces.. Groceries for lunches and such...

A method which has worked for me for many years is, if I set my sight on something I really want, I end up selling something else I already own. Not essentials mind you but electronics. I'm one of those people who doesn't like clutter so it proves beneficial long-term plus it decreases the purchase cost of the new toy. :)

aren't there games that will require the new firmware though ?
I believe that with the Gateway one can flash their 3DS's firmware to a modified newer firmware that even official game carts will accept as updated enough.
Exactly.

It's called EmuNand.

you first dump your Nand of the 3ds.

Then you boot into the Gateway menu and upgrade the virtual Nand.

So you can play every game with the Gateway.

Still waiting to get my micro SD.

then I can finally start to dump my games.

I'm generally pretty frugal, so I only impulse buy things that seem cheap. Mostly this affects hand tools, and I now have far more tools than I think I'll ever need. The only things I don't think I've used at all yet are a set of forstner bits, some SDS chisells, and a set of imperial spanners I bought after I bought a 1" spanner for my bike's cassette and noticed I could buy all the spanners up to that size for less than the one cost.

My retail therapy is to buy Miku related stuff, because she makes me happy + buying stuff makes me happy. Am trying to cut down on buying things though because recently things have got a bit out of hand.

albums from the dollar section. CDs are becoming cheap (really cheap in bargain bins) and you can find good stuff. helps if you like a wiiiiide variety of music.

having said that, i could get rid of at least a third of my collection and not miss it.

X-Wing Miniatures game pieces..
Well, I got myself into Star Trek Attack Wing and Wizkids has been releasing new expansions like crazy. I tried to restrain myself but ended up buying 17 out of 30 additional ships out there. Fortunately they slowed down releasing new models recently. The good thing is we have a group that plays locally once a week or two so that ships are effectively in use, not just collecting dust on a shelf.
