Vibrating Pyra?


Someone already modded the Pandora with a vibration motor. It's driven by the KP_BL PWM, but I'm not sure if it was direct or used a transistor. I think it was just direct but I can't even remember if it was mentioned or not.
 
It was just direct. I use a 3V motor right now that takes aboit 100 mA at full speed.


At least it should according to the datasheet.


Works perfectly as far as I can tell.
 
I must have misunderstood something, I thought we were talking about driving the vibrator directly from the CPU pin. Also yeah, more or less a transistor should do the job but to me an extra transistor qualifies as a circuit. An extremely simple one, but still.

More to the point, I do realize now (after getting some sleep) that my idea of leaving a whole data bus for this purpose was awful. My apologies to anyone who got worked up about it.
 
No worries, no one is worked up over anything, just trying to minimize the confusion :)
 
I'm a hobbyist electronics guy and have been since I was 13, and have had the dubious honour to repair quiet a few of my friends electronic gadgets, and among them are two or three dualshock playstation controllers, where the vibration motors stopped working (because one of the wires breaks).

The multi-stranded wire simply cant take the stress after years of usage, the material fatigue the vibration creates reaches a breaking point and a wire comes loose.

This is obviously not a problem for the pyra (not any loose multi stranded wire), but I wanted to share my personal experience with damage that came from vibration motors.

Though do anyone know if the cpu card connector has been rated or should otherwise be able to handle the vibration coming from the motor?

I'm slightly worried since in the rugged embedded application world, low profile connectors are avoided as long as they don't have metal clips holding the contacts firmly in place.

Perhaps the heat spreader or the case itself will push the cpu card inwards?
