Ok, for the sake of compatibility, can we use Micro USB instead if Mini USB?

Since this ks being manufactured fir sale in Europe, as I understand it, isnt it required to be chargeable via MicroUSB?

I recomment Mini USB ,more because the Connector is more stable.

Had 2 Defective Mobile Phones because the Micro USB Connector was broken. :)

It had better be damn strong if it is.

MiniUSB is a better connector, but, unfortunately, obsolete.

The ability of a microUSB connector to withstand rough treatment is generally, appallingly bad.

I've got two Arduino boards where the entire connector is held on with two surface-mount tabs about 1.5mm². Both have had to be used with extreme care and laboriously hand-soldered back together.

If the Pyra uses microUSB, it MUST have through-hole mounting tabs, and should have more than two of them.

Don't think so. Unless iProducts have microUSB now.

There may be an official recommendation, but no law IIRC.

I absolutely despise Micro-USB. Simply not enough material for it to be a long-lasting solution. The USB standards claim that micro is more durable and can handle more "plug-in cycles" than mini, but I have a hard time believing that.

I've always liked USB Type-B. Not the smallest solution, but it has the most solid *click* when you plug something in. I think the pins are slightly bigger and thicker as well.

I dare say it can handle more ideal plug-in cycles, but fewer real-life ones.

There's only one good reason why to use micro USB: Micro USb 3.0 exists. I don't know Mini 3.0.

The receptacle itself may be more durable, but its connection to the board is generally not :/

It's not just that either, I've bent the connector on two cables now, and I have to press them hard to get a connection on my phone. The microUSB in my JXD S7300 is all but completely broken.

Mind you, I've had problems with miniUSB cables failing too, and the miniUSB connector fell off on my GP2X..

Can we get microUSB sockets with four through-hole anchoring tabs?

I'd also like micro USB for charging and OTG uses, if we can find one that won't increase rmas. It's not exactly the most professional impression when the official supplier can only provide chargers that explode, or chargers that end in the wrong connector and come with an adaptor to adapt it to the right connector included.

Micro USB does add the benefit that most everyone has a connector for it, however, I would rather not have it for the same reason most are voicing here. Other USB formats are more durable. Like rError, I do prefer USB type B to all cables due to the shape and the satisfying click. Although, since it is uncommon, I doubt it is likely to be up for consideration.

Mini USB is an obsolete standard which had several design issues and was dropped by the USB standard organization (for good reasons).

I have never had issues with Micro-USBs myself, so I am not sure why you guys have had bad experience with them. Maybe you went for cheap shit ? :)

Most people who have problems with it are having problems with it in their cell phones, which are devices they are plugging in daily. The average person has only owned 3-4 cell phones w/ Micro USB, since the acceptance of it as a somewhat standard for cell phones is fairly new. So your sample size of phones you have not had issues with is likely to be rather small compared to the number of phones out there.

Really?   Can you expand on those good reasons?  My impression was that they dropped it solely because they wanted micro-USB to become the new standard..

(no I'm not being sarcastic I'm genuinely curious)

I think micro-USB is fine if extreme care is taken that it is made as solid as possible and there is still a dedicated charger port (preferably backwards compatible so Pandora chargers also work with it), so most people don't have to use the micro USB for most of the charging. Maybe micro-USB with SlimPort (mobile DisplayPort)?

I don't think it makes sense to include a mini-USB port. It is as obsolete as mini-SD.
