Reicast - Dreamcast emulator for Android (Now Perhaps Pandora - See page 2)

Pleasure :) . AT LAST ITS OUT WHEEEE.
Great :D

Amazed that you aren't taking money for it, if you've put 2 years of work in aren't you worried about open sourcing it and people nicking it (like with gpsp)? Wouldn't you like to make money with it? The only thing I can think is (a) you're really really nice and open sourcy or ( B) you don't really need the money...

Oh my goodness... and I always thought christmas is on december 24th... cO

"Incoming" runs at full speed with flawless sound...

but crashes after about 30 seconds of campaign gameplay.

If this thing gets stable... and I bet it will become like that...

...This is just freakin AWESOME !

*EDIT* :

Just to let you know SuperZaxxon 1.60 + SGX driver version 4.10 makes this stable

(Tested for about 2 scenarios = 20 Phases of the game with 1.0 Ghz standard clockspeed)

Here we go =D

*EDIT* :

I replaced the crashing video footage by the way ^^

That's the main reason it wasn't released years earlier -- I hate other people making money off my work. We actually desperately need funding if we're to work on this project more, but the odd donation here and there doesn't help (and it is not a transparent process to the users anyway), and adding premium "version" is totally unfair (doesn't relate with actual development cost, we might make much more or much less money, the project "maintainers/porters" get the money instead of the actual developers).

We're planning to do a crowdfunding campaign, and see what kind of dedication we can put on this project based on how that goes. I've personally spent silly amounts of money in hardware to get to this point, and there are many job offers that compete for my time. I also have two other contracts right now -- and i'd have to either drop or drastically reduce the the working hours there if i'm to get any serious work done for this.

But what comes first is getting it into a workable shape over the "vacations" :)

*edit*

Just to note, its been two years of arm related optimisations. That's why its fast :p . The project, including psp/gcc initial ports and nulldc spans from 2004, with many breaks in between

Finished the arcade level of Soul Calibur several times this evening and unlocked couple characters on 1GHz, SGX 4.10 with no overclocking .  It started out a little slow, but after two or three matches it ran faster.  I wouldn't say fast as the Shield but very close and very playable and enjoyable.  No crashes in a two hours of constant playing.  Very good.  The only problem is the sound stutters and crackles so I mute it.  Is there room for sound improvement on the Pandora?

Pretty much everything I've ran on my Rebirth is a slideshow. Looks like the 1gb unit really has the advantage here.

Well count me in on the crowd funding.

Are you planning on releasing a commercial version for Android/ios?   I personally think you really should.  Don't want some other person capitalizing on your hard work.

with sound stutering of course
I wonder if there's a cheap way to make an audio buffer stretch. You can have slightly slower video and not really notice because the image stays on the screen for as long as needed, but audio is played and gone, but if you can anticipate how much slower the audio is and add some interpolation to make it just a little bit longer, it'll change the frequency but at least it wouldn't stutter. Which is more annoying? Sound and music which is a little bit too low, or stuttering audio?

I'm ordering my Pandora within the coming weeks. I would love to see this emulator running near full speed, and I'd totally donate to help it get there.

No, we have no plans for releasing a commercial version. This is an open source project, with work so far donated for free. The "monetization" model we're gonna go after is sponsored development via crowdfunding, and I believe is the only fair way.

We're free on the android market (and a couple more stores), and the plan is to be available for free on every store possible within the next months. If someone tries to charge for it i'll report it and hopefully Google/Store owner will do the right thing.

I would recommend you to make a paid premium android app and keep the free one. The paid could have a nicer Interface and some other nice to have stuff (syncing savegames between devies via google cloud, cheat support) etc.

And do a kickstarter with a nice video showing cool games which doesn't run but coukld with more development time. But you need rewards. Maybe make the above premium reicast android, charge 5 euro for it on the play store and give every 3 euro backer this version for free, so people would get something for their donations.

Well I have tried all of the video drivers on my CC unit but cannot get Crazy Taxi to work.

I have tested Crazy Taxi on my phone to ensure the BIOS files & game rip are are correct and the game runs fine.

Any tips from users that have a CC unit?
