iCP2: They're throwing in the towel.

Well, he gives a response now and needs an additional 25k because he has spent all of the money the backers gave him on his lavish life.  He only appears when he needs your money.

Edit:  Third time is the charm.  If he wants to really scam people again he could and I'm sure people (even the ones on this forum) will fall for it again.

Unfortunately you'd have to be absolutely crackers to give him any more money now.  If it was someone else reputable that was going to take over the project and needed the cash , then maybe.  Otherwise, no thanks.

Yeah, the last time he appeared it was to say that the evil alien capitalist suppliers increased the price of parts (that he SHOULD have ordered years ago, but hey, you don't improvise yourself a project manager huh) and said that, (sob sob, grab your kleenex tissues) he had to put some of HIS MONEY into the project. Such a tragedy. We all feel very sorry for him. For the 10th time or something.

The man bleeds money every time he takes a pee.

You guys are really running with this $25k thing. Read it again - he basically says that he was trying to raise $25k but has pretty much given up on it. He's not soliciting for new money (but IF it were really as simple as only needing $25k now, which I strongly doubt, then soliciting for money may have made sense.. a long time ago) He probably just wants to show some meager evidence that he was trying to do something to salvage the project. Who knows what he actually did. Anything was probably too little, too late.

I just want to make it clear, when I talked about the possibility of funding this did not have anything to do with giving Craig money. Or buying off anything he used the money for. It'd still be on him to try to put together what money he had, including selling what he can, to give whatever refund he could. In no way am I interested in nor suggesting anyone take up his debts or responsibilities. What I could potentially be interested in is getting MWeston and others onboard to contribute their design work towards an otherwise separate project, one actually managed competently. And possibly funding design to completion IF I had any belief that another KS could be successful. I don't care about making a profit, but it's no good if too few of the backers would want to do it again. IF Craig demands some amount of money to relinquish rights to whatever he has rights over then I'd only consider it if that payment can be satisfied by being giving it directly to his backers and relieving some of his debt, there's no way I'd directly give him money for anything.

Free apps still need money to be created. Where did Craig get the money from? He will make more money with in-app ads. People have been making accounts and notifying members of the Nissan Leaf forum he is pitching the new app on. He doesn't want the bad publicity.
No actually, apps don't take money to be created if you feel like creating them, a lot of the software in the world is written this way. Or maybe you want to audit where he got the $25 for setting up an Android developer account?

Guess what, a lot of apps also don't have ads, until you see his does you have no basis to assume it. And even if it does, so what?

Really, constantly trying to smear Craig and Link by posting irrelevant information about them is not actually helping your cause. People have been making accounts to flame him on a board that couldn't care less about iCP2, you seriously wonder why he'd want those people banned? I'd want someone banned too if they joined a forum just to disrupt it by calling me out. It's not productive unless your only goal is to inflict revenge.

25k can make a whole crap ton of alcoholic jaffa cakes.

It won't work.

The nubs are out of production, so he'd first need to redesign the PCB and case for new nubs, scrap the old PCBs to produce new ones...

I'd like to hear the excuse for why he didn't order those nubs in 2012. I kind of wonder if it would have impacted the Pandora supply if there were 4000 fewer nubs available, or if they would have just agreed to make more.

Quotes for every single part should have been secured before funding was even complete. There is not a single PCB component which shouldn't have been ordered as soon as the funding was received, except for the LEDs which shouldn't have even been added. This isn't wisdom from hindsight, this is basic common sense.

I wonder if any kind of project revival is even feasible. What I mean is, for someone to, before starting: hire MWeston and DaveC (or someone else who can do/finish the case) and if necessary secure the design rights, and get a proper prototype 100% finished and heavily demonstrated. Then put together a very detailed project plan, complete drawings, BOM, quotes, and source code and make it free to download to the public. Come up with a price structure that explains exactly where the money would be going and what initial funding would need to be repaid from it. List what things still need to be paid for vs what's already in store. Cut out any involvement from Craig (he'd have to be willing I'm sure), then have a website where KS orders can pay for the upgrade.

I might be willing to fund that first part of this if I were confident I'd actually see at least a lot of the money again. I don't have that much personal interest in iCP2 (I'm not a backer to begin with) but I think it really sucks that all this work went to waste and that everyone is getting burned like this. Does anyone have any idea if such a thing has any chance at all, or if the iCP2 team and/or the backers wouldn't want to push for it?
If your serious about this I would support it.

Btw any ideas to do a hardware project of your own in the future?

Im sure alot of people here, myself included would support such a thing.

^ Id support it also IF the project was led by someone new and reputable.

I do believes peoples pitchforks have been blunted somewhat by Craig's message(Strange he didn't do it months ago).   However don't worry I am sure they will be as sharp as ever when everyone gets their "refund"

Nah, I think you overestimate me. I'm just a coder. Even for something like iCP2 I'd just be willing to help out financially. Of course that also means I won't give money to people without reaching milestones first, and I wouldn't give out a big lump sum but more as needed..

But there's a lot that'd need to be cleared before that point could be reached.

Hey I passed the milestone of having a "technical document" on my IControlPad.   Can I has monies now?

How quickly you forget.

"Inevitably some of the money from GBAX will go towards the Pandora, as did money from the iCP1 and iCP2. It is a way to continue development in general, new projects included. It's likely the P2 (if it ever happens etc.) will just appear ready to order BTW, there isn't a need for a KS at this point, the iCP2 has let us do what we needed to do."

Are we really supposed to believe that Craig didn't take some of this money and go start a new LLC to produce his new App? Does Craig do anything for free? He's all about making money.

Back on topic, I wonder what happened to the "contingency fund". My 7/1/13 email with Debs, she mentions "We do have a contingency but this is for production emergencies only or else we run the risk of refunding too much and not being able to complete the project due to lack of funds.".

Is there an LLC now? And why would making a small app cost money?

Your hatred is making you irrational.

Well, wasn't ED just a video editor at some point of time? :)
Guess what, a lot of apps also don't have ads, until you see his does you have no basis to assume it. And even if it does, so what?
I don't know the situation on iOS but android is absolutely spammed with ad-aware, spyware and similar. Just recently I got a new phone and I was looking for a simple flashlight widget. First four apps I've checked required Internet access and other privileges clearly not related to the light but rather spying my location and usage patterns.
Back on topic, actually I'm pretty surprised Craig replied anything. What he replied was easy to predict though. The only interesting pars was about the iCP1s supply but I suppose it would be slow and painfull process to organize dispatching them with Craig involved.

What I don't understand is why all the iControlPads 1 have not been shipped to the backers... they were finished end of 2012...

The only logical reaosn I can think is to ship them with the ICP2... but now they should just be shipped out.
I would think the same, but since the project was cancelled I doubt they can complete some promises and not others. That's a shit storm waiting to happen. If and when refunds ever happen, it would be ok to ask those potential ICP tiers if they may want one in replacement of a certain refund amount, but otherwise, I just can't see them sending them out without a proper plan.

Yeah... it would have been good to at least have gotten the ICP1 I paid for as part of the backing...
