Any Ecco The Dolphin fans here?

Hate to be the rain on the parade, but I'm getting really sick of established (or long forgotten) developers jumping on the crowd-sourcing bandwagon to try and become relevant again. I think crowd-sourcing would help smaller development houses/individuals better than these assholes asking us to pony up >$200,000 for games that might be as good as the ones they made 20 years ago.

I loved Ecco back then, but have you tried to play it now? Shudder. BTW my wife called out first GSD Ecco, after the dolphin.

So, sharks are evolving in this game (something they haven't really done in millions of years), but dolphins aren't?

I didn't read any of the text, and just watched the vid, but I didn't really get where the game was or what they are planning with this. Like Fr Dougal McGuire says, it could just be an ocean life sim.

Like others have also said - perhaps these pros could do this without the crowd-funding and let the noobs have a chance.

Besides, it needs more puzzles and a 16bit styling to appeal to me ;)

that unity prototype is eerily tranquilising though...makes me want to zzzzzzzzzz

Yeah, more or less what Cameleon said. When there's a demand for such a classic return then I think Kickstarter is a viable way to go about it, especially when it's just "the original creators" and not a complete production company. Adventure gaming suddenly became newsworthy again, shortly after Wasteland 2 was announced, and since then several other big names have stepped up to capitalize on it. I have no problem with this, it's a new market and they're experimenting with it.

That being said, has anyone been clambering for a new Ecco game? Seriously? Ecco is not relevant at all, I am very confident that this kickstarter won't succeed in doing anything except disappointing those few that were genuinely hoping for a new game, and killing any chance of it happening in the future.
