[Release] Compo4all MAME - ladder/scoreboard competition for classic arcade games :)

Problem right now is.. the existing c4a-launcher display is full! Got a few more to drop in from pmprog etc, but.. need to fix up the launcher first! .. few more days .. should have c4a-manager out soon (for now, just a profile editor, as separate pnd), and then work on c4a-mame clean up a little, then rewrite server and drop in some new features, add in desktop support, r-pi, etc... goodness!

Tried king of dragons a couple of times, it seems that if you continue your score carries on.  Only, tried this a couple of times, so not sure if it stops at a certain level.
So I decided to play the whole game through, seeing as someone else already had, after completing 16 bloody levels......

Hi. Alexandre is my son and he wasn't aware of the "continue" problem... But yeah 4000 point after all that level! that's tight. But, he likes the first place...

Also, there was a glich on Pulstar, he has done a 120k points, something like that, but a 100000 point has been sent, didn't saw what happened (he was upset, his real score was higher, a third place in all-time classement he told me).

OpenTyrian is a quandry of sorts; he's working on adding C4A so we shoudl put it in.

Problem is.. its one of those games with scene+score .. so it has 4 distinct parts, each with a separate score; the existing 'score only' model doesn't really apply and he can't really fake it by doing 'scene * 10000 + score' type thing sincve the scenes are all entirely independant.

We're rather thinking that for _right now_ we should just put it into C4A with 4 separate entries (one per section), and then alter when I've got a module that handles this sort of thing more elegantly, we migrate it over.

I assume no one has a problem with adding for new games, that are in fact 4 parts of the same game?

Should have a minor update late tonight for c4a-mame..

-- added scrollbar to the game list on left

-- filter out non-arcade titles (since it doesn't know how to run them right now anyway, for homebrew stuff)

-- get rid of empty status dialogs, put a little status line at the bottom of the display

-- resize display to fit a bit better

That ought to help.. will post back a bit later.

Uploading update to the repo now!

Changes listed above, let me crib them:

-- added scrollbar to the game list on left (a lame solution, but enough for now!)

-- filter out non-arcade titles (since it doesn't know how to run them right now anyway, for other homebrew stuff)

-- get rid of empty status dialogs, put a little status line at the bottom of the display instead

-- resize display to fit a bit better (no more clipping off the bottom)

-- sorts the game list alphabetically

I also updated the banner text a little bit.

PLEASE UPDATE. It doesn't change how anything works, but since I'm planning to add a few more arcade and indie games, the older version will start getting the game list clipped off (it doesn't scroll until this new version.) Since that version also doesn't sort the game list, you never know which ones will be clipped off!

I like C4A. Playing a lot MiniSlug and Microbes to get forward in the lists ;) But I have some problems.

First: I can't start any game from the list.

Second: i don't know which roms are right, I tried some but none was startet. Any NAMCO Compilations?

Third: why the mouse is not moving?

As said I like the concept but it doesn't work for me correctly.

Try using PanMAME to get your MAME games working, then copy the romsets into C4A-mame's rom dir; they use the same version of MAME, but C4A is customized for its own needs. (MAME 0.106 romset.)  Someone else can help you with getting roms working.. maybe read up, I'm sure people have bumped into it before. IT takes awhile to work through and my time slices are tight .. and also, for my paart, I tend to rip the roms from my own arcade boards, so I do it differently than most ;)

The list of games is shown in the launcher (and grows over time), or the c4a.openpandora.org website.

If the analog nubs aren't operating as mouse, then something has turned the mouse mode; I'll have to check, see if its getting fiddled with, but theres definately a few rogue apps that set the mouse mode and then leave it, rather than restoring it to what it was when they started.

The Roms must be from a set that works in PanMame (not Mame4all) - so use PanMame to check that the Roms work in that first, then copy them into C4A's rom directory once you've confirmed they are correct. PanMame uses Mame 106 roms - sometimes Roms from an older or newer set will work, but test them in PanMame to confirm this.

The Rom names currently supported you are looking for are:

So where should I open a wiki page about C4A?

ie: We really need one, to put in some of these instructions (how to set it up), and describe what it is (homebrew and emus so far), and for developer notes (how to tie into the system for games, ot to make new interfaces for it), etc.

I see:

[*]Hardware Hacking

Under Emulators? Games? A new little section below both?

@skeezix @Asmo Thanks for your help. I will try it.

The mouse stops to move immediatly after C4A has started. After it is closed, everythings is fine.

I don't if it's the same issue but when Microbes brings the message that it uploads a new highscore the mouse is also not moveable for a ashort moment. Touchscreen still working. So it is indeed a nubs problem

Thats nornal as it switches the nubs to joystick mode for analog play in mame.

It should really do that when mame actually starts but I think skeetix didn't get around implementing it for now.

Anyone try the updated version? I trust.. it works? :)

If a number of people have cut over to the newer build, I'll add in a few more games (that would overflow the old versions display, but work fine now.)

Works for me, just jumped in and out of a couple of games without trying to score epically, no calamity ensued.

okay, I've turned up the Open Tyrian 4 pack of games (shows up as 4 entries in c4a website, until we look into handling that better.) The newer c4a-mame will filter them out, since theyu're not MAME titles, but homebrew.

I'll let him know to go ahead and release his updated Tyrion :)

jeff

I'll give it a test run if it works, I'll push up the PND.
