I'm considering buying one but am concerned about the lack of SD card support, but I've heard that when rooted you can then mount usb drives/sticks & launch apps/games & media from them, is this correct and if so are all apps, games/emulators etc supported.. & is there an upper limit on the size of the usb drive you can use..?

Would something like this:http://www.amazon.co..._sxp_grid_i_0_0 be usable..?

Thanks.

I'm considering one of the Asus Transformer series just because it has an SD card slot and HDMI.. slightly more pricey but I think the extra money would be worth it.

The Acer Iconia A510 may be worth looking at, it's supposedly one of the best currently in it's price range (out of mine I'm afraid though) with plenty of bang for buck.

^Thanks!, that does seem like a good device for the price.

Get one m8 you wont regret it, yes it doesn't have an sd card slot or tv out but you can connect a flash drive with an otg cable once rooted with stickymount. ive connected various flashdrives 32GB 64GB without a problem only hick up i had was getting xp to recognise it but asus are notorious for this and google is your friend here, easily resolved just download the nexus root toolkit v1.5.2 and unlock root it and your on your way, best gadget ive bought in years all it needs is a controller dock and tv out and it would be perfect.

I've got one too, I actually haven't tried to connect any HDDs to it even though I do have an OTG adapter. I don't really store much media on it as my music is on my phone and if I want to watch any movies on it then I just put on what I need and delete it when I'm done.

As far as the device itself goes I really like it, the form factor is the perfect size for me, I find 10" is much too big (OOO MATRON, OOO STOP IT, OOOO! etc). My only beefs are that, although it's supposed to be Google's flagship Play device, they don't seem to be doing much in the way of tailoring for it ie: I keep seeing reports of Tegra games running sluggishly as they haven't been optimised for it. They also haven't added the ability to rotate the homescreen yet, which is a pretty fundamental gaff, I am sure they'll address this with the next update though. Flash seems to have been removed entirely too, so site videos no longer play in Chrome, I think this is an ICS thing rather than Nexus specific though.

Other than that I've been using it almost everyday and it's really replaced my phone for most things, the screen is pretty nice (it's not exceptionally vibrant or hi-res, but it's definitely not cheap and nasty) I would highly recommend it.

Thanks for that, disappointing to hear of the Tegra game situation I'd be reluctant to get one if that was the case, especially as there are some really great ones around now.. have you tried any of the emulators? I'd be very interested to know how N64 & PS1 performed on it particularly with Bluetooth control either Wiimote & Classic Controller Pro, Sixaxis (I have both)

I have a galaxy tab 7.0 plus and its great, the exynos 4212 is able to keep up with tegra 3 on many levels, it even has rear camera and sd cards slot...I would never support nvidia tegra because of their continual fracturing on android gaming with their tegra zone!

I'm considering buying one...

Do it! It's the best value for money I've ever had with a tech purchase, the bang for buck of this thing is incredible.

You'll find a few more Nexus 7 owners in this thread (might be worth a merge if a friendly mod comes across this)

As for the storage, that is the one thing that made me waver slightly, however using Hotspot shield and this guide I managed to get Google music with it's free 20Gb of cloud storage for MP3s working fine in the UK.

I've decided I'm gonna get myself one of these.

Money is a little tight for me at the moment.. is the 16GB version really worth the extra £40? I'm guessing when I start downloading the games & installing some emulators that 8GB will disappear pretty quickly.

Got a Nexus 7 and had just over a week. with a OTG cable you can use it with external storage even when not rooted if you get an app (cost about £3 but you £15 to spend at google play when you buy anyway).

Have to say it is a brill bit of kit especially when used with a PS3 controller (wired which works out of the box again not requiring root)(but you need to get a OTG cable) with games

In fact so brill (at this point I prepare for the backlash) Im selling my pandora (there I said it)

Remember that the 8gb is really only about 5gb of free space, they don't tell you that! The OS and everything else is not stored separately.
