Does 512mb help with browsing?

I'm thinking of upgrading my 1st gen Pandora to one of the newer models with 512mb of RAM when the option becomes available.

Can anyone who has a 512mb model confirm if it helps with browsing as that would be my main use for the extra ram.

I would be quite sure it does because I run out of ram on my 256MB model, however, with ZRAM in the new OS beta, and it is much better. 512MB would be perfect.

Surely it will help when using many pages in tabs when using Midori or QupZilla. If You're using 1 or 2 webpages at time in tabs, i dont think it would help, maybe apart from FIREFOX. For FF 512mb will be surely not enough...

with swap files pnd you can create up to whatever size you want as long as your sd card is that size or bigger and firefox runs "MUCH" faster with it and more games like strikers 1945 3 and dragon blaze and space bomber load in mame

This is a solution , but only partially-good, You're sacrificing speed [slowdowns while accesing SWAP/Disk memory, SD cards are much slower while accesing that real mem] for more memory.

Yes, this solution works with mame, but not really work with browsing big pdf's and djvu's [constant and infinite SD read/write and slowdowns/freezing the application]

I set up a 500mb+ swap file on a class 10 card in slot 2 and ran Firefox from slot 1, the speed up wasn't so impressive. Firefox did crash less though.

Is there a way to enable the swap file automatically every boot without requiring a password?

You'd have far more speed improvements using a faster browser than adding RAM.

Chromium is _very good_ for general purpose browsing.

If you wanted just quick reading, then links2 is great.

There are a lot of other browser choices..

Jumanji is a fast (the fastest after links?) browser. Using LXDE also helps.

Does it actually works ?!
If you had crashes they are likely gone in SZ beta5 (new kernel).

Ah, ok, I'm still using beta 2 with old kernel, I'm waiting for the final version before reflash

It's working fine for me with the stock bootup, from a 1 month old Pandora.

Perhaps I haven't stress-tested it enough. I'm switching to it as my main browser.

Even my Pandora is 1 month old... do you still use SZ Beta 1 with old kernel ? I never tried Chrome with that version...

I have no idea offhand what versions of what I'm using.

A new beta has been released, so unless I switch to it I wouldn't be doing any helpful testing. I'm going to keep using whatever stable stuff shipped with my Pandora.
