How's it going? (2012-03-05)

Regarding the usage of UPS for some shipments here: i hope this company will not be tasked with the shipment of individual orders in Europe too?

I myself had - several - bad experiences with this company, to the point that i now try to avoid them at all costs.

Some of these experiences include: delaying shipments by days by sending them to the wrong state, causing problems with customs declarations, unhelpful customer support and simply leaving parcels worth several hundreds of Euros at my doorstep.

Not that they could cause problems with my pandora until the far future since i am a batch 2 pre-orderer and i do not intend to upgrade :p

regards

Bad news, UPS is used for shipping at least in Germany. Found my packet on my front door when I came home. Possibly lying there for several days. I also got no shipping confirmation so I'm glad that I live in a small village where nothing gets stolen.

Well, regardless what company you choose, you will always run into issues locally.

Some have issues using DHL, some with FedEx, some with UPS.

Using multiple companies to ship out the Pandoras will just add costs (the more packages you send with ONE shipping company, the cheaper it is for you) and more work.

UPS has been the most reliable of all of the companies I tried out and also the easiest one to handle for insurance if a package gets lost.

One package this year didn't arrive, even though the UPS driver had a signature, it was not from the receiver.

Took me one week to get the insurance money.

With DHL, it takes weeks - and as soon as they get any signature, they don't really care about insurance anymore...

ED, Why I haven't received your email, but I did receive email from UPS yesterday, including tracking number. I'm confused :S

What eMail?

The one for the final payment?

After you did your final payment, the next mail will be the shipping mail from UPS ;)

Oh, my mistake ^_^ I always though people receive email that you have sended it. But still I have no clue about that "Secret Little Surprise"

UPS sucks, but not because they would leave packets on my doorstep. For me it is because they attempt to deliver to my house when I'm not at my house. And then you need to figure out where they've stored my package (their closest center) and get there before it closes - and it can be tens of kilometers away. I drove 40km(*2) to get my first pandora - and left work to do that. The optimal delivery method for me would be to send an insured (and signature required) package using the normal postal service - they also have tracking so I could just check online that the package has arrived to my local post, and pick it up on the way home - and the local post is less than 2km from my home, and I'm used to picking stuff up from there so I know where it is. ... Hey, maybe I could this time change my delivery address to my work address, since I know it will be arriving by UPS - their delivery works wonderfully to my work place :) . Last time I knew they would be using UPS when I received the mail from UPS so it was a bit late to change stuff, and they wouldnt agree to redirect it without a single attempt to deliver to the original address...

I had a huge surprise when I opened my package today!
An inflatable co-driver?
Missing battery and power-supply unit

It's already sorted though, I hope I get them before the weekend. ED really does provide good and fast service! ^_^

But having a Pandora in your hand and not being able to use it is even worse than just waiting for it to be shipped

Already shipped, should be there tomorrow.

Hehe... told you I'm Eeeeeevil :D

My experience (in Canada) is that the courier services (all of them?)

charge a customs brokerage fee -- $60 I'm not sure what this charge is for,

so shipping gets quite expensive

Post does not charge this

If you have a PSP power supply around, an official one, it should work without the battery. Just not a good idea to add/remove the battery while its plugged into an outlet.

You have been reading "Leaving Pandora on indefinately" haven't you Link? :p

I can ship to Canada with US Postal Service if that's the preference from the Canucks. The cost will be higher, $45 coming in bulk from ED to me, then me shipping US Postal Service Priority Insured. I don't want to use FedEx for anything, but I can work with folks indivdually who need an option beyond UPS as well for within the US. We just need to communicate timely and I can confirm information with ED regarding order # etc.

I think sending anything with USPS from US to Canada is not a good idea, I have heard about very bad experiences with them. I don't know about you guys though.

If you do, I recommend an extra layer of bubble wrap...

Well, I won't use FedEx, just not happening. I've primarily used USPS for shipping to Canada in the past with no issues. When boxes move shit happens, and no company is perfect. That is why when I ship, it is 9 times out of 10 insured, and if there is a Pandora going in the mail, its always insured for the replacement value.

Unless it is more than $20 higher, USPS is definitely my preferred method and I'd gladly pay for the higher shipping (duh). I've never received anything from the US via UPS that didn't have at least a $20 handling fee attached to it, sometimes as much as $40, and with inconsistently (and occasionally incorrectly) applied duty. "Please send via USPS" is now part of my ebay purchasing instructions.

I think ED mentioned from him to Canada was 60 or 70 €.

Interested to hear from other Canadians if this $45 charge is acceptable or not?

$45? For serious?

I've shipped laptops to Texas via Canada Post for $50. My assumption when I brought up the $20 was that surely it couldn't cost nearly so much for something so much smaller and lighter. Is there really such a disparity between Canada Post to the US and USPS to Canada? That's scary.

I have to got to the post office for more information, but the Pandora I just shipped to Canada from the limited EDition I brought back from Germany was $31.70, and that's not including shipping from ED to me, packaging, beer money, etc.

Oh, ok. That's not unexpected. I thought you meant $45 extra to what UPS would have charged for the same thing.

Did that change? This feature - power supply without battery - wasn't guaranteed and was not intended by design.
