I've been given a green light by Introversion to release Uplink. You won't need to copy any extra content to play, just download and enjoy.

This *is* a beta with a couple of graphical and usability glitches, but it should be fully playable. I haven't yet tested the later LAN missions or the monitor/bypass interface - so I don't know if there are any glitches later in the game. Feedback is appreciated and will be taken into consideration. Check the TODO before making suggestions to be sure I'm not already working on them. I'd also like to know if anything in my TODO *is* fixed and I just forgot about it :)

Bugs to watch for:

Remember to right click (use the right nub) after dragging a window to release it

Username fields are buggy. If you autofill a username, wait a second before clicking login. Additionally, sometimes text in the username field will be invisible, but you can still type. This shouldn't prevent you from playing the game.

TODO

NOTE: this TODO is two years old, and doesn't properly reflect the tinygles release.

fix dragging to work "properly", with just left click

sizing:

make buttons everywhere bigger

re-evaluate text size

display last objective at bottom of screen, or restructure the emails so you can see the server and filename without scrolling

make login window bigger

make UI rows taller, possibly reduce the number of rows

expand leftmost UI to remove blank space on right side

shrink gateway map to make room for bigger buttons

bugs:

dotted lines currently appear as aliased lines

solid lines are heavily aliased, maybe turn on line smoothing for the world map

text is blurry and long glyphs have bad positioning. it'll help if the upside-down bug is fixed so I can remove this ugly rendering hack.

some actions will cause UI elements to temporarily disappear.

Alright! This is awesome!

Edit: Runs fine for me, I do agree though, the text is hard to read. I don't know how hard it is but maybe a thinner font so the letters don't blend together so much. The font might not need to be made larger.

the font is actually *blurry*, as well as bad glyph positioning. I'm going to redo the font renderer - either replace it, or write a new one.

Great stuff lunixbochs, many thanks for your persistence & efforts so far. Have you condisered a release of uplink for the Pandora Rebirth compo? It would make a pretty strong entry IMHO.

Yeeehah!

That's just awesome... A hacker game for a hacker's machine :D

This is my release of Uplink.

I'm not planning to submit any of my ports into the Rebirth competition.

Awesome news!

A big thanks for porting this and kudos to Introversion software for making it entirely free (even though I already own the game twice :D ).

[edit]Will this be added to the repo as well?[/edit]

will be released on repo when I finish most or all of the todo items.

Thanks for all your hard work, I downloaded the Humble Bundle with this in, but not gotten to play this yet, was waiting for the Pandora version! :)

Sweet. Sweeeeeet. I've dabbled with it on the PC, but the Pandora is made for it (quite apart from the ZOMG HOW CAN I READ THAT? font issues that may exist).

Thankyou thankyou.

Now I'm going to make the most of my sense of entitlement and wait for someone to port DEFCON. Shouldn't take too long, should it? ;)

The todo list looks good. That kind of extra effort is always appreciated; with those tweaks it will really feel like a native Pandora title.

I have the most trivial comment: The game is a 'hacking simulator' (although that is a tongue in cheek description) so I thought it might appear in the Sim menu category rather than Adventure/RPG. Other opinions on this?
