Pandora Rebirth Competition (2012-01-09)

EvilDragon, you said something in your main post before about projects not having to be finnished if they looked promising enough, is the rule now that a project has to be 100% complete to be able to participate?

Yeah - end of march - wonderful!

I am in!

Great opportunity to revive some gaming-ideas I had a quarter of a century ago...

That's what I call "retro". ;-)

I really dont feel like making a 2D game, but making a 3D game in 2 and a half months is a short time, especially when youre inexperienced and havent even made a 2D game before. Can I supply a demo and have that count and release the complete game once its finnished whenever that would be?

Otherwise I think I skip the competition and go ahead with my 3D anyway, I really dont have any passion for making a 2D game right now.

Uuhm, if you really never made a (2D-)game before, you should better not begin with 3D...

I understand, that you don't have any passion, but do you have any game ideas for 3D or even 2D yet?

Putting a new twist on the 'escape the room' puzzle genre might be fun. Then you don't need live 3D graphics. Maybe?

Well I have almost completed my 3D engine, thats probably why I feel so little passion for starting a 2D project, whatever you do it takes a long time to do it, and if Im gonna spend a long time doing something I want it to be something that I have loads of passion for. I dont have practical experience but Im quite sure about how things work.

The only 2D game Im interested in doing is a Gargoyles Quest fangame, and thats illegal and against the rules of the competition.

My idea for a 3D game is a action adventure, inspired by Metal Gear Solid, you play a secret agent infiltrating a big base with orders to retrieve some documents and/or items, I dont wanna spoil the plot, but it has twist, its sci-fi also not present day.

I'm looking forward ;)

AAAA have been made in less time then that ;)

I was thinking that as the new update of FMN is taking so long (real-life issues and another long-neglected project are getting in the way), that maybe I could enter the new version ;-)

I jest. I'm currently working through negotiations for the source code to another stellar-class closed-source shooter to port, I may enter that instead... We'll see :)

I can't wait to see what you guys will come up with for this competition :)

¿Where is the price pot to give a donation to the winners? cant find it.

Hi :)

¿Where is the price pot to give a donation to the winners? cant find it.
About the price pot: Good idea :)

You can send money via PayPal to "donation@openpandora.org" and put "Pandora Rebirth Competition" as comment.

I'll throw that money into the price pot then.

Please include your nick in the comments as well if you want to be mentioned as donor :)
Bye, Magic Sam

Thanks for answering, Ive also donated 20€, although I hope that the money goes to all the winners, although the fist should get more followed by the second and so on.

Sandwhich:

Maybe ED can put the paypal-adress and the so-far-donated money into the first post?
You are totally right, the PayPal address for donations should be in ED main messege in the front page so that Pandora owners can give a proper thanks to the developers.

Greetings and good luck to all the Pandorian programers. :D

The Pandora version of the entry must NOT be released to the public before the competition is over. You can release as many versions for other platforms as you like. It is also okay if there's an early Pandora version predating January 9th - but no further public releases should happen if you plan on entering.

what happens if there's a crashing bug ?

it might be crashing on some user's machines but not on the "selected beta tester(s)" machine(s) due to some magical interaction between installed package/lib :p

could we have a 1 week of public beta prior to the deadline and the voting ?

(or post-deadline but that'd basically extend the deadline by 1 week so I'd say 1 week prior)

You are welcome to post pictures and videos or share your project ideas with the community (and get suggestions and/or help from them). The judgement will be done by the community, so this is a good way to find out what they'd love to get

basically, this means we don't have to keep it secret ... so, 1 week of public community beta testing wouldn't hurt, would it ?

I'm suggesting:

this is just a suggestion, not a rule update!!!

Public Beta Week+1: Starting March 24 (UTC) (weekend! woooo!)

Final Deadline: End of March 31st (UTC)

Voting: some time after.

this is just a suggestion, not a rule update!!!

(hidden in a spoiler tag to not confuse anyone who'd skim through the thread)

or would that ruin some aspect of the compo ?
