Release Final Burn Alpha ported to Pandora (FAQ in first post)

Does anyone know if this game has the same memory issues as the GP2X version? I'm reffering some of the NEoGeo games ahere you need a cache folder with memory images to help with the lack of memory in the GP2X.

Metal Slug 1 runs fine, but when I try MS 2-6, they just crash back to Capex(even though Capex shows I have good rom images). Then after a few attempts at a few games, and after I get pushed back to Capex while I go thru the games list, it will crash back out to the desktop. So it seems like the failed game start attempts do something to the memory allocation or something.

Can a full page scroll be added to the left and right pushes of the D-Pad? That way Capex can be scrolled thru in a faster manner. Also, can the images and button press commands within Capex be changed at some point to reflect the Pandora's buttons(start, select, number keys, ect.)?

Very good early effort guys, I'm really looking forward to fixes and improvements, as Final Burn supports some of the best arcade classics EVER!

Great news that we finally have this ported to Pandora, thanks dave18 for your great work.

¿What roms does FBA suport? I gues its Cp1, Cp2, and Neogeo, ¿any others?

Greetings. :)

Let me ask a dumb question; bear in my I don't get to sleep anymore and I've not investigated FBA much since a few years ago..

Is there any possibility of just building the very latest official release? (Google suggests a new tarball came out this month in fact.)

Old FBA (esp gp2x ports) are all over the place, as the term "FBA" really fragmented years ago. This latest build over at http://www.barryharris.me.uk/fba.php .. looks like it has makefile.sdl in the 7z file, so who knows, maybe with some luck it'd build okay; probably performs poorly, but you never know till you try :)

i've "found" that too while looking for FBA stuff but found it easier to work on porting the caanoo version - but i'm tempted to give it a try :)

Theres often a good case for both .. consider MAME; the older MAMEs have less game support of courtse, but also run much faster for a variety of good reasons.. so you end up with two or more concurrent ports, both with good reasons.

I could see something like that for FBA too .. a caanoo/gp2x port, and a current port. Of course, people hands being the limiting factor :)

Lots of people are ripping themselves off by not trying crow_riot's beta in post #82. I think dave18's version was uploaded to the repo a bit too early and has overshadowed crow_riot's efforts.

If you're intimidated by it not being a pnd, don't be silly. Unzip it and double click fba.sh.

New version uploaded to repo. Fixes missing edges of some games. Also fixes loading of large neogeo roms.

If you get capex crashes when trying to save game configs just manually create the conf folder in appdata/fba-dave18.

FBA is made for speed, though, not accuracy. So we might have a different story.

If newer versions are being looked at, FBAnext might be worth a glance. I don't know how much of a departure it is from the original, but my experience with it on the PS3 has been fantastic. The front end is just text mode, super fast to nagivate, and all the options are there including sorting by hardware type.

Been looking at crow riots build aswell Gruso, very good build if the framerate can be stabilized it will be perfect pity compatibility is piss poor blazing star pulstar and last blade 2 not supported and you are right fbanext is an awesome build sh2 68eco20 supported so games like strikers series work pity not more taito games are supported in the newer builds and gunlock/rayforce darius gaiden is still not supported.Ps people if your struggling to run this go to file manager browse to apps/fba.sh double click fba.sh file and you can browse for roms mame 106 style choose your rom and bobs yer uncle be warned some games run veeeeeeeeeeeerry fast.

Took Gruso's advice and tried crow_riot's beta 2. Sound is pretty amazing and games that work run perfectly. Several games I tried crash before loading but playing 1944 on that beta is one of the coolest Pandora experiences I have had so far. I could be wrong but looks like Dave18's build has better compatibility and crow_riot's build has better sound. Either way, I know these were both a team effort and both builds are so great and improving so rapidly all I can say is Thank You!

I've tryed that myself (and failed miserably but I'm far from an emu guru).

Yet I have a few lights to give : Its author started to revive it's SDL port 2 releases ago (.28, we are now at .30) it doesnt link for some reason way above my head, but I would bet a merge is definatly a possibility at least windows is not mandatory to build this :D

In an other new, why this dev thread is in the general talk section ? Even beta section would be way more sane imo.

I don't have much of a camera setup, but I'll see if I can do anything useful tonight.

Suggestion for crow_riot: Could you swap a couple of button mappings? The current mapping is:

  • Arcade A = Pandora A
  • Arcade B = Pandora B
  • Arcade C = Pandora X

Using Metal Slug as as example, the Pandora controls end up as:

  • A = Main weapon
  • B = Jump
  • X = Special weapon

This puts the grenade button right between the fire and jump buttons, which is awkward. It affects all games in different ways of course. (Ghouls n Ghosts is hard to play with all that thumb travel, and special weapons are too easily wasted in shmups). I think a more intuitive default would be:

  • Arcade A = Pandora X
  • Arcade B = Pandora B
  • Arcade C = Pandora A

So you would have your basic run-n-gun controls on X and B, and extra functions on A.

@dave18

Yours is currently in a more logical sequence:

  • Arcade A = Pandora A
  • Arcade B = Pandora X
  • Arcade C = Pandora B

...but I'm never really comfortable using A as the default button, hence my suggested configuration for crow_riot. Personal preference really; my A button is a little spongey, but serves well for the occasional grenade or kill-everything-on-the-screen-bomb.

Alright, In the latest version once I run any game and exit back to Capex, once I begin to scroll the list, it crashes out to the desk top and then I must restart FBA.

Keep the updates coming, this is AWESOME!

i've found one bug on my side that causes crashes (easily fixed) and another one in cyclone (need to talk to notaz about that). and the framerate is way off, realized too while testing some wwf game. will also be fixed.

thanks for testing - good that it works on other pandoras too, not just mine :)

sounds like a good suggestion, played mslug a bit too and was always throwing grenades instead of jumping :p

(but thought of making the button configurable anyway )
