Release Pandora elite - Beta

p.s. I didn't know the Archimedes version was the "best ever" - I even owned an Archimedes for a brief period (before being seduced into the PC world and it's massive library of software). Is there a good summary of the differences between versions? (haven't googled yet - but will do so now...)

WOW! Will definatly check this out when I get my Pandora delivery. I am sure I have read in the past that either Bell or Braben (not sure which) preferred the NES version over all others but you can't beat a 'native' port - love OOLITE on PC

I have that one. Wasn't a fan. Elite I love. Just not on NES. just doesn't seem right..lol.

Hi

Just a note to say this project isn't dead, just my pandora is still in Germany so I'm unable to do anthing (or to EUAE or AROS come to that)

Will get on when it returns

I'm up to Competent and about 60K XP. I got the first mission message but forgot to take a note of the planet name - began with an R I think??? :-(

Can anyone let me know the details of Mission One?

(yeah, I know, I'm obviously not that competent!).

(Hideki - any thoughts about the source code?)

Actually, I came on here having just reached the first mission. ;)

The message text is a little obscured by white lines, I think it's an intentional effect but it makes it a little hard to read.

Loving my handheld Elite though, so great job Hideki. Brings me back to those rapturous days of the 1980s when I played on my CPC. The controls are great, I can actually dock!

The message says the ship was stolen from Xeer and was last seen in Reesdice, and that you need military lasers.

Thanks Doomy. I've followed the mission all the way through to jumping to the 2nd galaxy. Now I'm stuck again. I'll search some more (but any hints are welcome!)...

I'm also loving playing it on the handheld - it's the perfect format for it and Hideki's addition of the touch buttons are great. I'm looking forward to whatever Hideki does with it next.

I'm now 70K XP and Deadly! I'm guessing it's 128K XP for Elite? Still a long way to go...

I'm at the same point myself, but still Competent - are you just slaughtering everything you meet? :

I'm just wandering around Galaxy 2, trading various commodities while noting the names of each system I visit and checking the various screens while docked in case a clue pops up. Sure I'll find it eventually!

Piracy = quickest way to profits (the profit margin is just wonderful!) I'm "Clean" right now - but I've been up to fugitive a couple of times - it's really tedious killing all those damn vipers!!!

}-)

Ooh! I just re-read a post from hideki:

"As for the mission, you need to head back to whatever planet you arrived in the galaxy at, the ship will be somewhere within hyperspace range of it."

So, I think we need to visit all the planets within range of where we arrived...

Are you "Clean" because you used the galactic hyperdrive? Or do you periodically use an escape pod?

And I have no idea where I arrived in Galaxy 2, though I used the drive at whichever planet the message said the target had done so. The list I mentioned is in alphabetical order, not chronological. ;)

Hi folks, dont thinnk this is a spoiler at all, as youve got to get to the first mission to get the info and set the mission off anyway, basically, some lowlife according to the space navy has nicked a constrictor from XEER galaxy 1, equipped with "certian items" not gonna give you that much lol! but the roumour squad last saw the vessel at Reesdice galaxy 1 ( next door basically) - your mission should you wish to accept is to locate and destroy this vessel! this message will self destruct in about 32 weeks (buurp!!) hope that helps

@Hideki - is there any chance that theres access to your source code, as i did a lot of tinkering with oolite, missions, ships, coding etc back in the day to bring it to windows compatability, and would love to assist with this

oops! sorry guys that this info was already posted, was writing from my iphone, n its playing up

Hi Hideki,

Great work! I do have a small problem though. When shoot down another ship it gives me a bounty, this bounty appears to replace my credit amount rather than adding to it.

For example if I had £1000 credits and i shot down a ship and was awarded £153 credits, my overall total would be £153 rather than £1153. If then shoot down someone else and get awarded £130 credits, then £153 would then be replaced by £130.

Any ideas?

tuki_cat - I think you will find the total credits you have appears on the screen. This will be the amount before the kill but with a small bounty added to it. This was the way it worked on the original BBC version of Elite and has been kept for this version.

I took a rest from playing this but back on it again. Sitting on Dangerous and 160,000 XP. Just started the 2nd mission.

Hideki - any luck with your pandora coming back? Also I know there was mention of additional missions at some point - do you think you would add some extra ones in the future?

Great work by the way.

Your "badness" rating goes up by something like 64 when you shoot a Viper (but only the first viper per flight). It goes down by half for each regular (not galactic) jump you do where you don't shoot any Vipers. So, to get it down to zero I just ended up bopping backwards and forwards between two planets close to one another.

That's probably "cheating" or "exploiting a weakness" - but boy, it's hard to get to a planet when one or two Vipers pop up about 10 seconds after you just shot the last one...

Dang! I've got a really long way to go!!!

BTW, I completed the first mission (killed the new ship) but then got killed before getting to the space station.

Remind me again how escape pods work? I don't use 'em. Do you loose some of your equipment and/or credits when you use it? Do you keep your kills for that flight? ( I've had a couple of long drawn out battles where I've added 5K+ XP only to then die before getting back home (I always forget to keep some fuel in reserve as well!).

Hey, that's what save games are for!
