SONY PlayStation Vita (PS Vita)

Quick question to owners of a Vita. So I just turned my on in a dark room. When the screen is trying to show something that is primarily black (for example connect to the PS3 and then use the "PS" button to turn it off so that you get the white text on a black background) I see regions of really black and then like "back lit black" Sorry this is kind of hard to explain. The regions of really black look as if some kind of liquid has spilled between two layers of glass or something. I hope that makes sense, if you remember from Biology class when you stain a slide and then place the two layers of glass together the Iodine doesn't spread out in a circle it kind of goes in a strange shape.

At any rate when the screen is displaying colors or something you can't tell that there are these dark regions at all so it doesn't effect game play or anything like this but it just looks strange.

I'm sorry if that is not clear, but does anyone else have this with there Vita?

Also yeah i think no manuals and paying to pay online are basically the future of video games, I just wish it didn't feel like I was getting the short end of the deal all the time. I hardly play games online unless i'm doing it with friends, I might just be a grump but damn I just have no patiance for little foul mouthed kids and the lack of commitiment you get when you play with strangers. I would think it would be a fair trade if i go to the store and the game i'm interested in comes in 2 versions 1 with a discount and no online code. I guess I should just be selling the codes i don't use on ebay or something.

Well let me know if you can understand my discription of the Vita screen and if you think it is something to worry about.

Thx

This is a pretty common issue that nearly all OLED screens exhibit, called mura (a term which actually refers to a few different issues, including the one you described). Nothing to worry about. :) That said, some are worse than others. If yours is particularly bad you might want to exchange it.
Wermy is correct. This is a standard issue for OLED, and can be a slight problem to a severe one. I have seen several topics over at Gamefaqs, and it may be better if you get a replacement, or it may be even worse. If you can only notice it under certain situations, don't bother. But if you can see it all the time, and it's bugging you, go ahead and try for a return. Just be aware of the facts.

Never seen that on any of my 5.

It's only really visible in certain conditions. Easiest way to see it is look at a completely black screen, with screen brightness turned down, in a room with the lights off. You'll likely never see it in other situations.

I never noticed on my first unit, or my new one. So it just wasn't that noticible to me, or the problem wasn't that bad, but it does seem to effect some more than others.

Ok thx for the feed back guys, it doesn't really bother me and if it is semi normal then I won't think twice about it. I guess im just one of the lucky one's. What are you guys playing? What's fun?

I picked up Super Stardust Delta and I'm really liking the game much more with the dual analogs. Also bought Uncharted which seems to have been a good choice. I was looking at Army Corps of Hell as well.... so how bad is it Gadetoid? Anything like Overlord?

I guess one last question I couldn't find online.

The PS3 can access a media server to play content, can the vita do the same thing?

So im really digging the new wipe out 2048. Well everything but the crazy long load times, maybe the game has a really really small umd in it for authentic psp style load times. I really dig the art direction in this game a transition between current and neon Utopian architecture. I also enjoy the way you get 3 types of carper team and a prototype but I haven't unlocked one yet. The wipeout series seems to still be going strong with this title. What do you guys think?

It seems quite nice so far but i haven't played it enough. im still waiting for something fresh on the vita though i'll probably get the new resistance and gravity rush when they come out.I have to change my router nat type to play wipeout online.which i have yet to do.It's a sony thing.

Wipeout is amazing on the Vita. I think it's the best-looking and best-playing game I bought so far, and possibly the best in the series, though I've admittedly not played some of the others. I have the PS3 versions tho, and I think it looks and plays better than those versions. I also really like the environments and the feel. Futuristic, with a toe in the past, and not as clean as the ones further in the future. Feels a bit like Phantasy Star Online or Universe, which had environments I really liked, too.

Anyone know if a jailbreak is in the works for the vita? So home brew could be played, emulators, etc. can't imagine how powerfull this would be for emulation!

So emulation of megadrive is possible? How about snes and nes? Sorry just didn't realise this was possible. Would be great if it could emulate psone as well like. Guess it'll just take time. Shame that piracy takes hold as soon as things like that happen though. If only they opened it up completely but could only allow vita games that where paid for to be downloaded.

It'd be a lot better if they ditched the silly agressive metal music. Now I like metal as much as the next guy, but it's really annoying and out of place in this game.

I haven't played it a lot, which is probably telling of its quality. It's probably more worthy of a ~£10 price tag.

If Little King Story makes it onto the Vita, I'd be much more interested in that.

That's funny, most of the reviews I read said the music was the main redeeming quality of the game! :D

That probably speaks volumes about the quality of the game :D

It's just shitty generic metal... I'm probably committing some sort of sin for not knowing who the artists are, but I don't really give a damn. Game soundtracks should either be incredibly carefully chosen, or simply composed for purpose.

Example: "Still Alive" from Mirror's Edge. I'm not sure what came first...actually... the game or the song.
