Do you drink alcohol?

I didn't start drinking until I was about 26. I suppose I'll experiment with the drugs in later life, they don't appeal to me yet, but I suppose people get bored with alcohol and try other things.

I did try one of those legal highs when they were still legal and I didn't think much of it, rather like being drunk at 1000mph without being able to get off.

For now I'm sticking to the booze.

It's best to stick to the real thing. The legal highs are terrible; they'll mess you up something awful.

I only tend to drink beers and ales (no lager). I tend to drink for taste rather than to get drunk, I don't really like the feeling of being drunk. Even so, the last time I had a drink was almost 3 months ago. Been too skint to treat myself to some beer.

But you're Scottish. Drink something!

Well now I feel extremely naughty. I didn't start drinking greatly until I was about 19, but unfortunately all of my friends completely loved getting off their face, even more unfortunately most of them still do.

I've gotten consistently hammered for the past 11 or 12 years, but I've definitely cooled off now that I'm getting older. I do consider myself to have been stupid, but I never drank until I was falling over, and I never forgot what I'd done the night before (sometimes to my shame), but I could still tuck away half a bottle of rum, vodka, or scotch in an evening, and sometimes that was before going to the pub. There was a period where I would go out about three times a week, I was lonely.

Then at around 21 I got addicted to pot. I worked at the post office, getting up at 4:30 every morning and then working until 10 or 11, then I would come home and start smoking until midnight, rarely sleeping. I was a little bit crazy. I found out later that my friends were very concerned about me and had a discussion about what they needed to do about it. Luckily nature sorted it out by giving me crushing periods of intense foreboding, and the blackest fear of death every time any touched my lungs, so I literally had to stop myself and haven't touched it again since. I was also drinking during this time.

I still like to have drink these days, although nowhere near as much as I used to. I have some beers most weekends but I probably only get drunk about once a month.

first being drunk at the age of 9, first thc at 15, decided to never drink again at age of 17, decides that drinking isnt a big deal anymore for me, and now i might get drunk like once every 2 months, and thats the only times i drink too. tetra hydro cannabinol doesnt do it for me anymore, tried ecstasy, tried acid, experimented with salvia, played around with dxm, sober as all shit now, gained weight due to not being on the hollywood diet

I first tried booze at about 14 but then moved quickly onto LSD...then pretty quickly off it again and moved onto THC at about 17. Been there ever since but still drink sometimes at the weekend.

I hate the hangovers I tend to get after drinking and could not do my job with a hangover (programming with a headache is HARD) so that why I limit any drinking to a friday night. W33d on the other hand produces no hangover so is an ideal stress-reliever at the end of the [working] day.

Kids out there: - may I recommend limited (or no) drinking and Dr. Ug taking until school-work has been done (I.E. qualifications have been gained) - life's too short to ruin it with early experiments with alternative states of mind.

Some people around here are a bit hardcore…

The first time I ever drank alcohol must be when I was 15 and the first time I got drunk at 17~18.

And I got drunk only 6~7 times in my whole life. (and out of those I admit I can't remember what I've done on 3 occasions).

At 18 I got high on weed for the very first time, kept smoking it during a year or two, then never touched it again (don't feel the need to).

Right now, I think I was some kind of idiot at those times.

Weed made me fail a year at school and alcohol made me loose money.

Now, like I said, I drink a glass or two during the celebrations (except when I go to a wedding, I can't resist to champagne

I didn't smoke and try illicit drugs till I was 24.
Gosh, my little brother was like this, never smoked in his life, had really bad asthma and almost died a few times from being around smokers, and one day he just started smoking. He was 23 or 24 and I can't believe how stupid he was. He went all the way to 24 without ever smoking and then just one day he thinks 'Hey, maybe I'll start a dirty filthy expensive habit!' He is hopelessly hooked now and will smoke for the rest of his life and he is being told by doctors that he will need to use oxygen tanks later in life since the smoke is affecting his asthma so bad. Does he stop? Nope. Plus here in the US it is so expensive to smoke, don't know what it is like in Australia though.

The illicit drugs is pretty bad also I guess but smoking is just stupid.

I was like that too, I didn't smoke at all until I was 21, completely against it, but then I decided that I needed pot so I just did it (we mix it with tobacco here in the uk). Then I smoked for a couple of years afterwards, usually when I was out drinking. It was one of the stupidest periods of my life.

I see salvia for sale quite a lot, it's legal in the UK I see, what's it like? I understand it gives intense 'visions' for a few minutes? Is this worth trying?

I guess this has turned into the all-substances thread, so I'll tell my story. Growing up, I hated smoking. My father always smoked, though, and it was part of the "atmosphere." The propaganda I heard was always anti-smoking (My grandmother's friend knitted me a sweater that said "I was born a non-smoker") and I never, for a million years, thought I would take up the habit.

Then I went to college. I missed the smell of the smoke. It was nostalgic to me, so I'd find smokers to hang around with outside. I sat on academic side one night and listened to this psycho security guard elaborate on why Obama is the antichrist for three hours as she lit up cigarette after cigarette, and I didn't even know why. After a while the fixation on smoking shifted to the dramatic effect. I loved how it looked when you took a long drag to punctuate a particularly wise sentence.

Fast forward to the end of last year. I started smoking cigars. At first it was once a month, then once a week, then finally one a day. I didn't realise I was addicted until my girlfriend called in the promise I made to her (that at any point, I could stop immediately for a week). It was really really hard, but I managed to do it. I then smoked three cigars the first day next week.

I realised I was killing myself slowly. My girlfriend came over and while she was here I noticed painful bumps on my tongue, really ugly-looking bumps. I am a hypochondriac, so immediately I thought of cancer. I don't have medical insurance, and with my student loans I am worth more dead than alive, so I did not go to the hospital. I laid down with my girlfriend and apologised that I didn't listen to her... all night, we worried; we couldn't sleep. In the morning the bumps showed signs of improvement and that night they were gone.

I had heard about "e-cigs," (a better term is "personal vapouriser") but before I thought they were just as bad for you. I looked them up, looking for some alternative... and I bought one (Blu). It was shitty, but it got me interested enough to try my next one, the Revolver Infiniti Ion. With the help of "e-smoking" or "vaping" I was able to take the edge off the craving and eventually get down to zero-nicotine fluid. I have not had a single analogue smoke since that night, and I never intend to again.

tl;dr: my signature

I noticed there is someone here in the forums that brews his own, but I can't remember who.

Johnsongrantr, if I recall.
That would be me ;)

I do homebrew, but more enjoy tasting rather than actual drinking. I don't drink to get drunk anymore, haven't really been "drunk" in a good portion of the last decade.

6 packs of my latest and greatest make good gifts for family and friends. Sometimes get requests to revisit different recipes from time to time. It's a very relaxing art, the smell of hops and malted barley filling every room of the house.
