Yes.

and for them to emulate it at a quality similar to what we have on the gp2x right now, or even far above that, would be a fairly simple task

No.

Emulation is still emulation. Even though they will have an expert team, the same amount of work will have to be done. Even then, I don't think they will be emulating anyway, the PSP isn't powerful enough for fullspeed PSX emulation at 222 MHz (THEY WON'T OVERCLOCK). I think they might just port it or something very similar instead.

They wont have to overclock, the psp is UNDERCLOCKED, default speed of the processors is 333mhz, one they hit that point it will be overclocking. And yes since no specifics were released I was leaning on the fact that they may port too but i highly doubt that they would port such a large amount of games.

They OWN full information on the hardware. And they have a 3D chip. They also will likely be hiring (or purchasing source from) those who have written emulators for the Playstation.

As I said before, it will not be just an "emulator" it will be like when Sega buys Pgen or Kgen and uses them to sell "collections" of hit Genesis games for the PS2 and PC. They can work around any bugs and only release selected titles they want us to have/will even work.

Just like the GP2X which the default speed is 240 MHz?

Overclocking means pushing the CPU past the default mark. In which the PSP has 222 MHz. It can go 1-333 MHz, just like the GP2X can do 33?-240+.

Sure a simple task, but there is no way they will let us put our legal ISO backups of games we have owned for 9+ years onto a MemoryStick and emulate them.

Not a chance, that is not how Sony makes the $$ off the PSP. They need to charge for each and every piece of software run on the system. Each game (or possibly collection of hits) will be charged for seperately.

I know this, in terms of psp emulation of psx i am only going to play my favorite psx games on, games that i want to play full speed which right now is only the legend of dragoon, im sure in due time the gp2x will be able to handle everything else fairly well

Care to explain to me how the gp2x's default mark is 240 when there are units that can't reach 240?

Actually. I honestly would not be suprised that they had the PSX emulator in mind while they been in developement with the PSP. Which means it could be a matter of doing test runs, and plugging in the game files, or streaming them into it's availible cache in some kind of way that wouldn't be initially apparent to the untrained eye. If they were smart that is.

just a thought.

Never seen a post that says they can't... search for me would you?

I'm going to keep on nitpicking on you because you are always misinformed and spreading it.

Sony won't emulate PSX games on the PSP, so that's not even a comparison to bother drawing. The PSX and PSP both share the MIPS architecture. 3D doesn't need to be done in software since the PSP has a dedicated GPU. PSX software will be recompiled from source (which will be available from the developers) to produce a custom PSP binary.

I've noticed you're persistant, but yes i have seen a post but i am not going to look through hundreds of posts

@xinfernoofdantex: I'm sorry, but the Sony emulator won't have 100% compatibility either. No emulator will ever have.

And you can't say I don't know what I am saying... I'm one of the developers for psx4all :p

@everyone: the GP2X might be too slow for some games, but the idea behind the "all" part in "psx4all" is that there are versions for other platforms. The Palm OS one is a good candidate for full-speed everywhere since there are CPUs that can go up to 600MHz (for example, mine goes up to 520). :)

I am aware you are a developer and what you 3 have done so far is astounding, but surely you can agree with me in saying that sony knows their system best and for them to emulate it at a quality similar to what we have on the gp2x right now, or even far above that, would be a fairly simple task
I don't. It doesn't mean that just because they BOUGHT the chips that they know how to emulate them best. Although they can (try to) buy the ones that know it.

btw, do you have any idea how the dreamcast version is coming along?
No, I'm not involved with it at all, sorry.

Or someone will come out with a PS1 emulator for the PSP which uses the 3D chip, bla bla bla etc. That would be... quite fun if the person's emulator was better than Sony's.

I just don't want them to steal GPL code in the process...

Yes they'll do, the are not goint to get the sources of the games.. many of those sources may be even lost. ant they will have to work quite ward any way to make it work fine just because the cpu is on the limit to get sound+cpu emulation, and because the psp gpu has not exactly the same features psx had...

About the both machines beein mips, it will just make easier the dynarec opcode implementation, but thats the tedious work, the hard and dificult work is to setuo the dynares aechitecture ans environment.
