Why did you quote my post with that reply? I'm just not quite sure I understand it.. :(

I think Nintendo will be releasing Revo, and Sony will release PS3, and blah, blah. Sorry, but I couldn't resist. :D

By nintendo's own admission they're trying to get people who arnt normally gamers, which sounsd to me like they're trying to get people like what Angel is turning into, which seems now to be a faulty plan if too many of these people have 'lost their imagination' even though they've never been gamers.

There is not much they can do when the person says there is no way I'll make fool of myself playing with the controller. Those who want to give a chance to the wacky/weird/geeky idea will see a value to it, and the others won't. You know, people just see what they want to see.

There's only one thing I find issue with and that's Nintendo running around claiming "Revolution!" when it's not. They've made all these bold claims and now they slowly back down form them leaving millions of nintendo fans to champion the statments that are no longer valid by nintendo's silent admission.

It's not the first time, either. They said "Dophin!" when GameCube was no where near a mammal. :p To me, it's no different from Blast Processing for Genesis. We'll see how close the actual PS3 games will look compared to KillZone demo from E3 2005, which Sony swore realtime footage with the real hardware.

Yeah, where is the Speilberg film that he was supposed to use PS2 to render CG scenes? 75 million polygon pushing EmotionEngine for PS2, you know.

http://www.dvdfuture.com/features.php?id=1
"The system is so powerful that it can render 75 million polygons per second. To put this into perspective, rendering the film Toy Story in real time is not an unrealistic job for the Playstation2. Early footage of Gran Turismo 2000 shows that a videogame can now be photo-realistic. Even filmmakers (including Lucas and Spielberg) have been wondering about the possibility of using the technology in the Playstation2 for film rendering jobs (and Sony plans to license it, so they should be able to). "

It's all part of the game (no pun intended), and it's our job to sort them out ourselves, unfortunately.

BTW, did Ninty stop calling Revolution???

Well once the Killzone video was debunked I think most people pulled back from it due to sony's track record of overstatement. Though the quality of models and environments in PS2 games have improved quite a bit in the last few years. so much so that I personally wouldnt be against watching a movie done in only PS2 graphics (well okay technically we all ready have that with games like MGS or Xenosaga :p)

Nintendo hasn't stopped calling it the "Revolution" as far as I know but they arn't making claims like they once did saying it would "change the paradigm of gaming" (actual quote) or revolutionize the way games are played, they went silenta while back seemingly to let the anticipation grow. The only people saying anything like that now are the people who refuse to let anyone bash the system and plan to pick it up on day one without even scrutinizing the games because they feel Nintendo can do no wrong.

As for the "wacky" Revo, it's going to be an aquired taste, which is why I say the people most likely to buy it are people who already are fans of nintendo rather than people who've never played games before. It's like teaching a duck to fetch a stick, it's possible but it's not something you concider doing offhand.

@itsme, you're good!!!

@Angel, you say it won't bring new gamers to the club, but I disagree. It won't, perhaps bring new hardcore gamers to that club. But the DS undoubtably has brought people into gaming that never played before. I know this, because friends of mine have played these simple, engaging games on my DS, and gone out and bought one for themselves. The price is just right, and the thing doesn't scare them. Also I played my ds and my psp with two small kids the other day, they had never played computer games. They just picked up the DS and started poking the screen and could work it. The psp flumuxed them.

The Rev will (hopefully) be priced so that impulse buyers can pick one up. The controller won't scare them. So, I think this will bring new players in. Just don't know if they will go on to sticking a £500 graphics card into their PC so that they can frag the hell out of someone in Battlefield Zone 2...

They already do that.

If people would mind looking like fools, many brewerys would have a big problem

Lubidog - the PSP was never designed for "small kids". Would you give a 10 year old 250 dollars or even 250 dollars worth of technological equipment? Recipe for disaster I know this because I did let an 8 year old Play my PSP and if I wasnt watching it like a hawk it's be gone now, even though he know how to use it he didn't know how to take care of it.

As for bringing new gamers to the club, You brought them in. not the system. You were the one who introduced them to something new and depending on how that intro duction is performed it could be done with almost any system.

Impulse buys are rarely 250 dollars which is what I suspect the Rev will cost. No it isnt "super cheap" like many people feel the price will be but against 500 bucks and presumably 6 or 700 for the other systems 250 is a drop in the bucket. You want people who never played a game to pick it up on their own it'd have to be 150 or less and even then they'd probably take their sweet time deciding.

You say the controller wont scare then but that still dosent explain why they'd want to pick it up. It's like saying the moon has holes in it so it's probably made of swiss cheese, it's a leap in logic that while not specificly inaccurate, dosent take into account ALL the factors and thus brings only the conclusion you want it to.

I am playing Oblivion on my PC now.
I don't need an Xbox 360. It's best games will come to PC too.

I might get a PS3 to enjoy many of the great Japanese series that will be exclusive to PS2. I will almost certainly get a Rev. I can't understand why DaveC and Angel keep talking about waving the controller around and looking silly. The movements will be small generally; Its supposed to be quite natural to control. But even if it was huge swings, it would be fun. Where do you guys play consoles? In the street? At a club? Why do you care what you look like whilst playing? Do you always style your hair before loading up your 360s?

There will be thousands of people who are in the same situation as me and will end up getting a PS3 and a Rev. I predict it to be a huge success.
The people who are saying it is stupid and gimmicky now were the same people who claimed the DS' two screens and touch screen was gimmicky then, and thought the PSP would blow it away.

Gaming is supposed to be fun.

That´s excellent
I asked Angel if he lives in a greenhouse, he didn´t answer though :p

How stuck up must one be to care how he looks while having fun ALONE ?*

But cheers to DaveC and Angel, i´m sure you care more about looking nonchalant whilst gaming than gaming itself. Don´t forget to switch on your consoles, do ya?

*Edit: Pun intended

It's true to anything, again. I haven't bought a Madden in my long gaming life and I have no intention of getting one any time soon. It simply doesn't appeal to me. Those who hates Ninty will continue hate Ninty and those who think video gaming is stupid will continue think that way. Just Ninty thinks Revo will change that thinking, and Sony and MS think HD graphics will do the job. I respect both approaches, and will support both; not because it's Nintedo or Sony. I won't look down because it's Nintendo or Sony, either. As I said before, those who're willing to try will get something out of it, and the others will just wonder why. Quite often the biggest critics of games/movies happen to be someone who haven't actually played/seen them because they're too bad to even give it a try in his mind.

BTW let me share a real story that I witnessed at my local Fry's a few days ago that would nullify this whole console war discussion.

I was standing in the video gaming section and there were two dudes in their early 20s. One's looking for a new handheld, and the other was giving "advice". The advice was, "Dude, PSP is totally cool, you should get that." Guess what, the first guy walked away with a "cool" PSP. When joe customers make their buying decisions, more often than not, all those logical and rational thinking just don't apply.

You do realize that since (at least) the SNES Nintendo has never launched a console for more than $199.

I've never really understood the whole console thing. Every console I've ever owned I bought years after it's release to save cash.

I've always been into computer gaming and by that I mean computers with keyboards.

NES, SMS ok but give me c64 or Atari 800 anytime.

SNES, GENESIS great fun but barely scratches the surface in comparison to what's on offer from the almighty Amiga.

The same goes for these next gen consoles. For power gaming I have a PC so I won't be bothering with a next gen console anytime soon.
For fun gaming I have a GBA SP, GBA and GP32 for emulating all the other consoles and computers gathering dust in the loft :)

Only posting because I never said that, your quoting the wrong person, i think your posting your thought on something Alpha stated, not me.

And no i don't live in a green house, i moved out of my parents house long ago Fishass, so when you actually are old enough to own your own house, or have enough money, then maybe you can continue the insults. I suspect you got at least 12 years to go. And no i won't be playing ALONE, as you obviously will, I have a wife and soon to have a child, i can assume on your comments, you probably don't even a girlfriend, and no you can't count the one on EverQuest, sorry.

I thought that SONY's comment was pretty redundant and meaningless at this point in the thread. but whatever
