Won't the gpu 2d accelerator sort of, I don't know, ACCLERATE the flame rates or something a bit?
Yes! It will be perfect for picking fights with people on the internet!

everyones paid for there GP2X and they dont want to admit to better things ;)

What better?!

Tell me where I could drill some bigger holes in XGP mini?
(see, I don't see any suitable place for that)

Show me also where I could fit my custom circuit boards inside?

Yeah - I don't want starting about other things what I want to do with my GP2x but there lots of them!

:p

Thing is the big XGP is too big with screen unsuitable for what most of us are about (emulating and 2D games) where the mini is too... "mini"?

It's also looking the XGP is using the 3DRender chip from MagicEyes. It's not universally better than the MMSP2 in GP2x. For 3D it will be superior but doesn't expect miracles on the emu front.
(it has only one cpu it its on the same silicon process...)

Maybe alot of us don't see it as being "better" for what we use a handheld for. I know I don't, as I use it for emulation and HB. I don't care about 3D, that is what my PSP is for.

Newer does not always equal better.

XGP: Analog and 16:9 = worse
Mini: tiny screen and tiny unit = worse.
XGP/Mini: custom propriatary battery = worse

So for me both of these arent any better, the GP2X is better.

WineCE..HA HA!

That 'OS' (more like library stack) was used into only one or two early dreamcast games.

IMHO not worth the 0's and 1's on whatever media its written to.

Its more of what SDL+OpenGL is to Linux than a 'real' os. Am I right?

one or two early dreamcasts? what crack have you been smoking?

:word: all Dreamcast had WinCE in em'

In regards to XGP/XGP mini....I just can't get over the fact that their batteries are built-in. No go for me. :(

I'll stick to Nintendo DS lite. :)

its truely staggering how companies can muck things up in the screen and controller dept as far as emulation perfect go. things have gone backwards since the gp32 release.

one of these days, just maybe.

Okay I am getting sick of all this "XGP looks so damn nice, I will crap on my GP2X" talk... If you want a power horse with 3d acceleration then buy a psp. Seriously! This is getting out of hand. All the hysteria about that piece of hardware waste is really annoying. I thought by getting into the gp2x community I could avoid running into fanboys and now all this stuff that you can read and laugh about in the psp homebrew boards is appearing here, too: the rise of stupidity through blind enthusiasm!!! Just wait what the future will bring and expect nothing good.

I don't think speculating about how cool or how crappy the XGP will be does anything good. I can't see the point in wanting a system that was made for 3d games when there will be noone who will develop on it, be it for financial reasons (since commercial games will be hardly successfull on the XGP) or for reasons of time and work (homebrew 3d fps? i don't think so)... although the mini looks nice, how would you use it's openGL capabilites? THE SCREEN IS 2.2" SMALL!!! I don't see it succeeding or being better then the gp2x right now at all...

The Quake 3 screenshot on the XGP is a mockup-- it's not in any way real. You'll never see that view in the actual game either, they jacked a promotional shot and photoshopped it onto concept art of a nonexistant system. It's very much vaporware, and the likelihood of this system running Quake 3 is exceedingly low-- if it ran, it would look godawful.

To put things in perspective, machines with a full usable 64 MB of RAM had trouble running Quake 3 smoothly, same for systems with less than a K6-2 450 MHz-- which has excellent floating point performance. The ARM920T has NO floating point support-- it can only be emulated which is terribly slow. The 3D hardware onboard is no doubt rather anemic, probably a bit higher than PS1-level graphical capabilities much like the PSP's GPU. Its VRAM is no doubt very limited as well. You won't see stellar performance from it.

And remember, when the GP2x first came out, Quake was one of the biggest things touted-- even though it at first only ran at maybe 7 FPS on a good day without overclocking. If they got Q3 or UT to run, that doesn't mean it's any faster than that.

I don't even need to get into how moronic their suggestion of 3 different possible OS'es is, or how they expect this to compete with the DS or PSP as a real commerical console? Sure. They'd be lucky to get a fan following IF it were an open system, which it's not.

The mini looks so fuckin sweet! I am gunna get one.

seriously!!! 4way directional pad ... my freaking dream come true.

and i for one WANT something that small, that i can slip in my pocket. i hate lugging around the gp32/gp2x. internal battery is a plus, if it comes with a charger (like the gbasp).

here's hoping for good things :)

Have you heard of, "having a bit of FUN"??????
You and I joined on the same day and you seem to take life tooooooo seriously.
FUN! Try it some day Epicenter! It's quite exhilarating, actually!

Do you try to be annoying or does it just come naturally? The difference between you and me is that while we registered the same day, I registered a real account and you picked a really corny gimmick one that isn't funny .. just dumb.

1. It was stated before that Gamepark will be showing off Quake 3 on the XGP in E3
2. There is absolutely no proof that either system won't be open
3. GBA Micro has a small screen, a built-in battery, and it sold semi-well. Thus, the XGP Mini won't completely suck like many say it will.

Everyone, get a broader mindset. You're treating the GP2X like the basis of all handhelds.

well, my opinion on all this is...

the XGP will have comercial games and wifi, I have a PSP with more power and commercial games so there really isn't any point in getting the XGP. and if the XGP supports homebrew i doubt they will get any big commercial games, because of piracy.

XGP Mini looks sweet, awsome processor, linux, Li-Ion isn't really a pleaser to me but w/e i can live with it. I don't _need_ wifi so its ok there. the resolution is awsome for emulation. its kinda cramped but tiny isn't always bad. the D-Pad rocks ;). oh, and the FPU will make for some better speeds in homebrew apps. bad thing is it probably won't be able to play videos (not that it would be great to play a video on a tiny screen)

so overall, they both look like impressive components, they have thier bad sides, so does the GP2X. I don't really know what more to say so i'll let the dicussion go on.

EDIT: I just drew up a diagram of the XGP Mini's screen (with paper and rulers) and it is going to be insanly tiny... i think i'm going to stick with the GP2X.

I wish the GP2X had a built-in rechargable lithium polymer battery.

Death to AAs!

And no, I'm not joking.

When it breaks for any reason, expect to shell out money. Maybe the battery will be irreplacable, Ipod style! =)
