Xgp Xgpmini Spec

I think I will pick up XGP Mini because it's small, sexy, has a perfect size for mp3 player, has promising specs and will probably have some decent titles and I have PSP for top-notch games but it's just too big for mp3 player and entertainment everywhere on the go so I use it on holidays and at home but I can carry the Mini wherever I want.

The mini is much more universal however its small size isn't exactly encouraging. But some people will like it and I'd would have to get one in my hands to decide if it's ok.

Gosh...even the guy in the official photo looks kinda cramped to fit his fingers around there. Like you said, best to get your hands on it before you judge, but I can't imagine it being half as comfortable for playing as a full-sized handheld like the GP2X.

And am I right in thinking these two consoles won't be fully compatable? They're a similar spec, but I'd imagine even if they are compatable in some way the different ratio screen, analogue stick and extra ram on the XGP will cause quite a few headaches. Surely Gamepark would do better to release two identical consoles in different guises?

Well... they have probably the same chipset just with different ram size and peripherals. Yes - it will give compatibility problems...

Heh. I have an idea why both these XPGes are soo extreme in their ways
(first focused on 3D, big 16:9 screen, second very small, perhaps too small but more suited to 2D games and portable mp3 playing).

Look at the GP2x and... doesn't it fit between them more or less?
(in size, in capabilities and its market target)

Perhaps there is some of kind of a noncompeting agreement between GP and GPH?

I could bet that the additional 32mb at the xgp are reserved for video decodeing, just as on gp2x, it would make some sense.

They sayd some time ago that some commercial gp32 games will be ported to gpx.

I want one! I always felt the one thing that the gp2x was missing was wifi. I mean come on, who doesn't want to browse the net on a mini when they're in the crapper? :p

well, mr. gamepark dosnt speak english afaik, so they will at least have a hard time :)
the dmb would be quite intresting for me, tv on the train would be nice.

The XGP is out for me. The screen and analog rule that out for emulation. I don't see this competing with the PSP in the 3D market either. The screen is smaller than the PSP as well. It seems like a pointless system to me.

The mini seems ok for someone that wants a MP3 player that can play games too. The cramp inducing size of the system and headache creating tiny screen mean it is out for playing games for any extended period of time though.

Neither one has any advantage in CPU speed really as the GP2X can go to 266 MHz too. Then there is the built-in battery, Boo-hiss. What do you do when the li-ion battery stops working? Do you have to send the unit back to Korea to get it replaced? If Gamepark discontinues the unit someday will it be a pain in the ass to get replacements for the custom battery?

not that "just xx mhz more, we can reach that with overclocking as well" argument, dont forget that its highly likely that the xgp is overlockable as well.
Also with its aim towards 3d there are some chances that it could have a fpu, wich would give a serious boost.

The XGP looks like a cross between the sega nomad and a PSP.

I wonder how high you will be able to over clock it to.

And boo the built in batterys :( what do you do when your on the move and you run out of juice :/

Bear in mind that the processors in our GP2Xs are apparently underclocked from 266MHz. There's likely no difference in the main processors here, aside from the second core in the 2X.

The CPU in the GP2X is made to run at 250 MHz so it really isn't an overclock.

If you want an XGP buy one and have fun playing emus on a stretched out filtered screen with an analog stick, yuk.
