Usb Host Developments

Will this module work with any revision kernel?

(It should right?)

What i/o devices are actually supported then?

why do people love wifi so much? it would only really cause more work for devs with their emulators, cut down battery life and things like that. WIFI is ASTOUNDING on the ds because there is SO much that you can do with it, chat to friends, downlload demos, download 2player games even if you only have one and ur mate doesnt, and you can play two player wirelessly.
But i think wifi will take a while to actually be of any use for the gp2x, plus also that not many people have one, and it would be easier to have a link cable rather than wireless since most emus have two players, not three or four.
But thats my view i guess. Also with a HD, i would like one that i can plug into a wall and power from that output and can be used as a docking station, and with the idea of having the usb pads, man, id have like my own 300gb console movie deck in my living room!!!

Im excited about that, but not so much for wifi... ;)

if people want wifi they can have it, you dont have to use it if you dont want to, i wish people would stop saying how shit wifi would be because they wouldnt use it, there is something called an opinion everyone has one, yours doesnt apply to every other person on the planet. this goes to daveC too, since he says the same stuff about wifi.

why would it cause more effort for devs and their emulators? why would an emulator be using wifi? what does it have to do with anything?

and battery power? so what? if someone wants WiFi, they will have to live with lower battery life, big deal, its a sacrifice, or just use a power supply....

THAT is what you will want in addition to a low power Wifi card, (and whatever USB adaptor's are made).

It seems to be a generic USB keyboard so it should just work fine. (mind you it lacks some keys)

Anyone else see something similar? (and cheap  )

flexible!

The key to good multiplayer setup is abstraction of the connection from the emulator, as in a TCP/IP connection. That way emulators are just coded to do network play using whatever network is available and it won't matter if it's wifi or usb or blue tooth for that matter.

Wifi could be interesting for say, streaming a movie from a computer - take the gp2x and plug it into a TV/stereo, power, and a wireless dongle, and you've instantly got a networked media player (plus it can do games too!)

Want to watch some divx movies at a friend's house, but don't know what couple you want to load onto your SD card? Throw 20 onto an external hard drive and take it with... lots of fun possibilities. It's a little less bulky than a laptop, and a lot cheaper to replace if it gets bashed around.

browsing would be nice, as would multi-player Quake if it's possible. Is it?

Would be more interesting to put a driver's wheel and play Driver on the psx emulator. B)

The only realistic use of WiFi I can see is downloading programs and updates and browsing

you cant see interweb games as a reality? why not?

its a bit early since the guy isn't even selling the USB "breakout cables" yet, but ive been looking at this portable HD:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ADME:L:RTQ:UK:1

very small and compact, perfect for the 2x, art told me on irc any hard drive which would work on a linux kernel 2.4 would be ok, and i asked the seller and he said yes it will work on any linux, or something along the lines of that.

anyway..i cant wait, its going to rock :)

Multiplayer games over the net would be fun, and should be fine. As was said, earlier, Linux abstracts away the network connection: you just have to have one set up and network games should be able to play fine. Mind you, it still takes work to make networked games happen, it's just that wifi vs. USB vs. link cable can be reduced to the same code.

I'm really excited about wireless for integration with home networks. I'm thinking applications like control of MythTV boxes or (in my case) home audio systems wirelessly via the GP2X. Pretty neat stuff.

If nothing else, I'm sure it will demo well to non-believers :D

I'm planning to try and play with this some, myself. I'll probably build a breakout box, like Art103 did initially, but I'll probably include one or two batteries with a step-up circuit, to keep the whole thing portable. Put it all in a nice project box, or build it into a pseudo-dock which wraps around the back of the 2X and it could be a pretty simple, cute, totally extensible thing.

So exciting!

Very impressed that somebody put the effort in to work this all out. Completely over the top of my head.
