Happy new...

I'm really happy too. We've had regular updates, and the process has been a real roller coaster of emotions, excitement and drama. Hell of a back story when someone asks me about mine when I get it.

Best of all, it's hopefully not too much of a wait from now :)

It's also hardly like we're not accustomed to waiting at this point ;) I've certainly learned to be a little more patient, at least.

* 3rd anniversary of the preorders (May 1)
* 5th anniversary of the presentation of the Pyra (February 1)
* 6th anniversary of the launch of the OMAP5 chip.

Happy?

Supporting this project is pure masochism at this point.
WHERE IS THE ROADMAP FOR 2019 ?!

WHERE IS THE ROADMAP FOR 2019 ?!
That's an easy one :
- cases ready in two months
- electronic hardware ready two months later
- base software ready two months later
- assembly adds two months
- boxing takes roughly two months
- shipping is shorter, it only needs two months
--> it should be delivered within two months for pre-pre-orders, and in two months for the rest of us
Sounds good to me !

Correct me if I’m wrong but that would be 14 months... so not even shipping til 2020?

Happy?

No, I'm not happy.

I'm not happy with vendors that leave his SoC abandoned without updates and without support to their clients, and a faulty documentation.
I'm not happy with chipmakers, that following the trend, don't update their drivers leaving users stuck with old kernels.
I'm not happy with brands that flatter themselves about having the latest hardware and then leaving it without any support/updates a year after.
I'm not happy with customers complaining about obsolescence and the buying the latest device just because is cheaper and "better" (allow me the quotation marks here).
I'm not happy with these same brands including spyware in their devices and customers happily buying them because they are huckers and know how uninstall it.
I'm not happy with companies leaving linux support to the communities without giving any help and customers happy because no matter how, it runs my flavour of linux.
I'm not happy with auxiliary companies giving priority to contracts just based on their size.
I'm not happy with a whole market system that makes projects such as this one (and not focused on technology) almost impossible.

I can only be happy that this one exists, even if it fails miserably.

Of course you are wrong, because you possibly did not catch the maths and physics that apply to this project :
two months + two months = two months
This is why the pre-pre-orderers will get their prototypes in two months from now on, while the rest of us will have to wait a bit more, like two months, which makes all deliveries arrive in two months from now. Except if you order in two months, in which case you will of course get your Pyra in two months. Makes sense once you get he hang of it...

I’ll believe it when I see people posting their pre-orders arrive. Not holding my breath or paying any money until then.

Scincerely,
-someone with $500+ less from the Craig pre-orders of the Pandora

Ok, but we are not talking about that on this topic ^^.

Ok, but we are not talking about that on this topic ^^. We are on the Pyra forum, so it's obvious that we are talking about Pyra and how outdated it has been for almost 6 years now and it's not even on the market.

To have a discussion there needs to be a contrast of ideas. Are you just wanting to hear from only those who agree with you? Not sure the purpose of this thread aside from complaining; doesn't seem very constructive.

I haven't said anything related with the content of your answer. Please, do not try straw man arguments against me. I'm ok with ideas that doesn't agree with me but he surely answer this topic with unrelated topics.

That wasn't my intention, and I'm sorry for causing any offence from my question.

However, I do feel their post was relevant. They mentioned issues that have plagued the development of the Pyra to some extent, and I share frustrations in delays caused by peripheral issues outside of the control of the Pyra team.

Honestly I no longer see a reason to go with the pyra. I bought a windows tablet/pc hybrid a couple years ago and I doubt the pyra will be able to do anything it can't do. I mean, windows 10 tablets with cheap Intel socs like the atom x5 and 4gb of ram like the one I have are dirt cheap nowadays. They cost like 200 euros or less. They also have a big advantage in that they will be able to run windows software, including 3D games (not the latest stuff, obviously) .

A few years ago the pyra just made sense. Nowadays it doesn't. It's an expensive niche and outdated product (which is weird because it's not even out yet). I know it being late isn't anyone's fault, just pointing out the obvious. Truth is, even your average phone nowadays will be a lot more powerful than a pyra, have a lot more gaming/emulation options and cost a lot less.

Your needs may differ from others', I would not buy a Windows device if I am not sure I can install and run Linux instead, which is not always easy on such devices...

Phones have been that way for a while even when the Pandora was still in production, what a phone doesn't have is a convenient built in physical keyboard and gamepad, sure there are flimsy attempts at external hardware that just never seem to be right.

Honestly the Pyra isn't everyone's device at this point it's just a continuation of the platform created by us in the Pandora community, which in a lot of ways doesn't make much sense to outsiders, but something I hope will continue for sometime.

As I'm constantly on the lookout for the 'one' device to do it all, I still see many reasons to choose the Pyra. I will cancel my pre-order when I can buy a pocketable computer with gaming controls, a backlit keyboard, three sd card slots, Linux OOB, plenty of I/O options all backed by a pleasent, privacy respecting seller and a community that can leverage amazing things from so called 'outdated' hardware.

Sure, it's taken a long coming but I think in saving for the Pyra by not buying devices that don't offer those features above I have actually saved money.
